| I'd like to install an lt230 and get the linkage set up to get my truck CDL equipped before winter this year - How difficult is this install? Does it require any special tools? Can anyone here be bribed to help? While it seems Roger and I are pretty willing to tackle anything, we do seem to get frustrated often! | | |

| I havn't done it, but will, so I'm going to watch this thread.
Also, I haven't seen an LT230 for a while. I was wondering if a slightly lengthend shift knob with a bend in it would allow you to use the same opening that the B/W case used -- I'm talking RRC here -- without modification of the center console area.

the lt230 allow use of the same opening as the b/w but you'll have to modify a little bit since the lever moves around a bit more. the install isn't too hard at all. it's just more of a hassle. rent a nice big transmission jack (2k or bigger) and you'll be set. i've helped scott reinstall mine and it wasn't *too* hard IIRC.

andy Ya, but I'm wondering if some trimming could be avoided by using a bent lever arm. If it starts a bit higher and a bit further to the right, then you will have a bit more room on the left when you go to lock it. With a loose boot, you might be able to use the same exact hole.

| well, it'd be a real pain to bend the transfer case shift lever arm. it's around 1/4" in diameter. the console needs only really minor trimming and with a boot like you said, it'll look fine. you can most assuredly use the hole in front of the transmission shifter where the original t-case shifter was.

| The bend won't save you from trimming. Some extra height on the shifter would be nice though. Scott | | | |

| Were all 1999 Disco IIs equipped with the CDL ready transfer case, or just the 1999 SD? I'm trying to source one now - Any reason to pay a premium for the transfer case out of a 2004 vs. a 99? | | | |

| Nik, All 99's had the cdl capability, and some early 2000's I think but don't quote me on that. I wouldn't worry about getting an '04 unless you get a good deal on them. A shifter assembly out of an '04 would be nice though. You could also look at solenoid activation for the CDL. Scott | | | |

| I was trying to find the solenoid activation on GBRs website, but they are down for web work - Any idea on the price for that? I am eyeballing the Greg Davis install in the dweb tech section. | | | |

| mileage might be a bit lower on an '04. and, as scott mentioned, you might be able to find one with a lever and everything. that will cost more but will be worth it. as scott and i can attest to, getting a D1 shifter adjusted just right is a royal PITA.

| Nik,
I bought my solenoid lever from AMV in Australia. They had no trouble shipping to the states and I received it quickly. They've always been responsive to questions I've had as well.
You can buy a transfer case with a warranty and under $30k used from a salvage yard. I found some website where I said what I was looking for and about 50 salvage yards sent me price quotes. I had numerous offers in the same general ballpark. I picked one that was relatively close (to save on shipping) and that checked out with the BBB and it worked out great for me.

| Well, I found one from a yard in New York, its from a 99 disco with 57k miles they want 110 for the part and 150 to ship - Is 260 total a good price? edit: it also has a 30 day warranty. | | | |

| Craig, how much did that AMV unit run - I'm on their site, but see no prices? I did shoot them an email though. | | | |

| What's the solenoid need to do -- move back and forth? I'm thinking door lock actuator.

| Mines a windshield wiper motor. It turns a nipple on the transfer case. It comes with a few wiring diagrams, switches that match your dash, etc.
