| Land Rover valve cover gaskets are notorious for leaking. I've been looking into options other than genuine gaskets and read recently about using Buick 215 gaskets instead. Anyone have any experience with the Buick 215 "Felpro part number #VS12993R-1" gaskets on a Land Rover? | | |

| You reading DWEEB today? I just ordered some and plan to install a week from saturday. I'm doing valve cover gaskets, wires 'n plugs. I'll probably paint the valve covers while they're off too...
Do you know a part # for the upper plenum gasket?

| Yep, reading dweeb, but trust the opinion of people here to be more objective. I'm typing this as the boys at Columbia Rovers change mine, along with the head gasket, and a few other "beyond my ability" items. I'm a little dissapointed that I'm doing this again after only 57k (Columbia Rovers DID NOT do it last time). Don't know the part number, but Scott does. | | | |

| Mine are leaking after only 40k (complete top end rebuilt at 67k) so I'm hoping the aftermarket work better. Hopefully, I'm tired of the smell and mess. | | | |

| Your head gaskets and valve covers are leaking? Grant's new Toyota is leaking too. Dang, bad mojo going around here.
I'm just glad to be taking care of it now instead of ruining a trip next summer.

| Mine too. I was mounting my bumper a few weeks back and Brent at Columbia informed me, after inspecting them that i'd need a head job. I just had mine done less than 40K ago. Mine were done by Stewarts in Sacto who was really highly recommended. I would advise not to go to them after my experience and the amount of money I poured down them. Anyways i will be having Columbia do mine as well soon.
Craig, are you trying the different seals this time or using genuine?

| No no, thank God no, just the valve covers leaking oil onto exhaust, etc. I'm knocking really hard on my wood desk right now... | | | |

I'm using whatever Scott likes to use for the valve gaskets. I started researching, then decided to just trust that Scott knows what works best.

Garrett,
My desk is made of particle board. Maybe that is the problem with my luck? haha.
Craig,
yeah, Scott is like Yoda and the force, except with Land Rovers. Aj

| I'm not sure there is a Land Rover in existence whose Valve Covers aren't leaking. I once went for 30k w/o a leak.
Maybe it's time that somebody try the other gaskets... whatever's getting used now clearly isn't working.

| The XD started leaking about 2 months before I sold it. DUOH!
The '04 has started to leak at about 60k.

| What's the big deal? If they leak a little, meh. As long as it isn't a function of something else going wrong, I don't see the problem. Head gasket leaking: that's a big deal.

| Hey guys! My valve cover gaskets on my p38 have not leaked for over 70k. Well actually, I replace my head gaskets every 2 years on that rig, so i guess I change my valve cover gaskets every time I change my head gaskets. My head gasket just blew yesterday I guess I will prevent valve cover gasket leakage for awhile longer, though | | | |

| Mine leak badly, and I think I may have an oil pressure issue, occasionally I get some valve noise at speed on the highway. | | | |

| Garrett, Plenum gasket # ERR6621. The valve cover gasket isn't the problem, rather a symptom of another problem. The crankcase ventilation is terrible on Rover V8's. The flame trap plugs up, and excessive pressure takes the path of least resistance which is typically the valve cover gaskets. The flame trap can be removed completely and a traditional PCV valve can be used to relieve the pressure. Valve cover gaskets last a lot longer with a modified crank case breather. | | | |

| I think I can make the assumption that the flame trap on mine is plugged, I will have to clean this to see if it helps reduce the leaking..... | | | |

| I think that there is a write up on the replacement of the flame trap with off the shelf parts that Scott made. Search around and come back if you can't find it here. It's fairly straightforward. I was able to do it. That should tell you enough. Andy | | | |
