| Well - the wife is out of town and it is our anniversary so I have decided to install that ARB Deluxe Winch Bumper she has always wanted on her D90.... any one done this before? Any tips? ARB has a note that 97' defenders with the auto transmission should call before installing, but when I did all they could tell me is that I might have to move a hose??? I picked it up today and will take photos and update as I muddle about installing it. Cheers! |

| Hmmmm - looked at this last night and realized it's not as simple as I had hoped. Now that I have it at home I can see that the hard lines come out of the transmission cooler right where I am supposed to be drilling and putting a bolt through - not sure what the best solution to this problem is. Anyone dealt with this? |

| I tried ARB again, but this time by email and got exactly what I was looking for.... I guess I'm going to have to run out and get an angle grinder. |

| Jamie, my ARB was already installed when I bought the 90. However, once you get the right tools, it should be moderately simple. get lots od cold beer before you start :-)

| Thanks Guys! I'm hoping it is pretty straightforward from here... I'm assuming the angle grinder is the way to go, or would a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade be a better choice.... it looks as though I have a couple of inches to cut in either direction. |

| I'd be happy to loan my angle grinder if you happen to be in the kirkland area. Or bring the bumper by and we can use the cutoff saw. Angle grinders are cheap though so it may not be worth the gas money? PM me if you need it. I'll be around. |

| So I trimmed the tab - no where near as much as they indicated on the diagram but it seems to slide on. It was a bit of a bear trying to fit it on and off by myself, but after filing down a couple of welds I think it should slip on a bit easier tomorrow. I'm not convinced the existing bolt holes are going to line up very well, but we will find out.
Hit the cuts and bare metal parts with some rustoleum and will try to assemble tomorrow. |

| When I built my bumper, I jettisoned the the tubular LR cooler and replaced it with a rectangular one from B&M or similar. I mounted it in the top right corner of the radiator gill as you look at the front of the truck. Secure mounting for the bumper and winch was a priority.

| Moving the cooler up is a good call as it would be far less prone to damage, but more work than I could handle right now. It took the help of a neighbor to man handle the bumper while I got the bolts in, but it is on and looks good... though I must admit I did like the Plain Jane look with the stock bumper.
The wife flies in tonight... I guess I have enough time to wash it for her too... naawwww, I gotta drink that beer that Dan was talking about.
Well I guess now I just have to wait to pull it off in a couple of months when I get the winch! I'll post pics of the project tomorrow.

| Pulling off the original bumper is just a matter of removing 6 bolts (two have the tie down points attached.) The grill needs to come off at this point as well. |

| So after a test fitting I could see where the transmission cooler line nut was making contact with the inside tabs on the bumper, I trimmed about 3/4"x2" off both inside tabs with an angle grinder. At this point I also noticed that a couple of protruding welds on the frame were preventing the bumper from sliding on all the way, so I filed those down as well. |

| With the help of a neighbor got the bumper on (it took messing about with which bolts to fit first to get them all in.) Then it was a matter of tapping into the indicator lights wiring to hook up the lights on the ARB. |
