I've completed Stage II of the project to create a PC based OBD2 software reader that includes Land Rover proprietary code definitions. At the completion of stage 2 the project is no more than the free Scantool.NET software + Land Rover OBD 2 proprietary definitions. This is however a significant milestone because it means that you can read a code on the trail and have some idea as to what it means.

I've added a page for this project under the Resources section.

As I’ve said to you before Craig, you are a ROCK STAR for tackling this project. Truly impressive. It’s a huge bonus for the DIY’er. How far away are you from accessing and reading the SLABS?

I've outlined the project stages on the project page (under resources). I'm on stage III now.

It will take me as long to implement the SLABS communication as it takes to find your keys when they are lost. That is, I don't know if I can access the SLABS so its pretty much impossible to guess how long it will take to figure that out. To be honest, this is also a really low priority project for me right now, but I do plan to make steady progress.

Craig,
Very interesting! Will this also clear "Test Book" alarms? Meaning, I have a "anti-lock" alarm that happened when my brake light switch failed. I could pay the dealer $100.00 to clear it or buy one of these cool units!

I don't know what you mean by an alarm. Sounds loud. :-) You can reset the Check Engine light. I'm not sure how many of the other dummy lights you can clear. So far, I've been able to clear all codes (Even SLABS) on my truck, but cannot read codes stored in the secondary computers such as the SLABS. When I clear the codes, I have to re-initialize my truck though because I lose all stored data about how my truck is running. The testbook doesn't do this. It just clears the specific code. I'm working on how to do specific codes.

I also believe you can read and clear OBD2 codes on the D1 w/o a code reader. Isn't there a display under the seat, and can't you just short two wires or something? Of course, reading a code an having an explanation for that code are two different things.

The codes I've listed and added at this point are only for the Disco 2. It is my understanding that each vehicle has its own range of proprietary codes. I'm working on getting the complete set from Land Rover ($$$$ though). I'll post an update if I'm able to locate this additional info.

We could meet up and try it sometime if you want. Maybe even hit the trails for a few hours at the same time.
