Alright, I know this subject has likely been thrown around quite a bit. I've tried to read as much as I could in the archives at Discoweb.org, but I couldn't find that much good information. My '97 Discovery is currently all stock. For now, I am looking to fit about 32" tires on it with the stock rims. The tires that are on it now are 245/75/16's which measure out to around 30.9" X 9.6" so about a 31 X 10. What kind of lift would I need? I assume that a 2" lift will work; I wouldn't mind going bigger, but money is an issue of course and it looks like going 3" or more involves replacing the Front Radius Arms and Rear Trailing Links, and some Driveline Modification = a good chunk of $$(PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong). So I will stay under 3"s for now and was looking at either OME or RTE springs, OR using Spacers. The Spacers are looking more inticing all the time as they cost much less (I've seen them for around $120) and it would be easier to justify throwing them out later on if I go wheeling enough with the Disco to want to go higher - 3-5". Does anyone have experience using these spacers? My friend used a set on his Toyota Tacoma and they seem to work fine. Do you forsee any problems with that setup: 2" Spacers, Stock Rims, and 32 X 10.5's? Any offset or clearance issues? If anyone has a USED, NOT ABUSED, suspension lift that they are looking to sell(any size), I might be interested in that as well. Thanks for the help - Curt

If you go the spacer route. I have a pair of brand new unused Expedition Exchange spacers. I'd have to find them to figure out if they are 1" or 1.5". I'll let the D1 guys weigh in on the pros/cons of the different lifts.

i ran for 2 years on stock suspension, and 235/85 BFGoodrich TracEdges (32")

using a little of this:

equaled this:

otherwise, just get an OME kit with matching shocks (HD or MD, doesn't matter) and run 235/85's. if you use spacers, you'll need to relocate your shocks somehow, or buy longer shocks anyway.

the OME kit is tried and true. save the rest of your cash for lockers.

I did the OME HD springs and Procomp shocks and they worked great and only took about 4 hours to install. I have tried the 235 aned 265 sizes and like the 235's better. I have not used spacers but would like to with the 235's. I recently pulled a Jayco Baja tent trail a frew thousand miles through Nevada and Southern Utah and found that gearing is an issue. My next mod was going to be lockers but gearing just jumped up on the list. I used a set of retread tires ($380 for 5)for this and aired them down for some trails and they worked great and no unusual wear.

if you simply add spacers, the truck will feel tippy. When you raise the COG and don't do anything about spring rates, you will get much more body roll. Listen to Isaac and get an OME lift with shocks and get 235s. its a proven setup.
