Did a search and found on some other forums that although there is not a commercial snorkel available, there are some that build "kits" that allow a Safari snorkel to be attached to a generation two Tacoma.  I have a 2011 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road A/C and would very much like a snorkel on it.  My question is - do the followers here know of anyone (or are that one) that are familiar, or have done this, to a 2011 Tacoma and can point me in their direction. I would prefer someone in the greater Seattle area but willing to travel for a neat/clean/professional installation.  Also, please forgive me (or feel free to move) if a solicitation of this type is not allowed.  Thanks in advance!!

back when I used to frequent the TTORA site, there was someone that found the Safari snorkle from an older Hilux was almost an exact fit and required very little modification, but that the gen 1 snorkle didn't seem to work so well on the gen 2. You could head over there and do a search.

That is the answer I got when I wrote them - since I did a search and found that link as well - but I am wondering (for a 2011 Tacoma Access Cab O/R) is if there is anyone you know of (or you maybe - for a fair price) would be willing to the install after doing it a couple of times? I am not able to find anyone around (Seattle area) that has done it.  I do not neccessarily want my truck to be the experiment on hole cutting in the quarter panel!!  Thanks in advance -- sign me...

Want a Snorkel on my Truck!!

If ya buy two "kits" I'll do the install on mine first then do the install on yours (then Ill have the experience needed) I did a snorkle install on my lx450 a few years back, It looks scary but its not too hard to do.

Cheers

Mike

Mike's got mad skills... I'd trust him to cut a hole in my fender.

yeah from my understanding, the snorkle lines right up with the a-pillar, so there's only going to be 1 place you can cut a hole and all the fabricating just comes from how you route the piping under the hood, so I really wouldn't worry about it. If you take it to someone who has a decent knowledge of installing a snorkle you should be fine.

There are 5 smaller mounting holes to be drilled in the fender, One large for the intake (which also needs to be enlarged after the initial hole sawing), As well as 3 for the A piller support. Nothing too crazy but things can and sometimes do go wrong if your not very carful.

I have aeen some writeups on it over on Tacoma World. Considering it myself but also want to add a Trd CAI. maybe we can get some kits and spend a weekend doing the install on a few trucks.

There is a really good writeup with directions on a vendors website.....I have it bookmarked at work and will post link Manana. It has picks and parts list. Very detailed.

Couple points I see in those last posts.

1) I don't know if the TRD CAI and this snorkle will work. I have the AFE CAI kit who used to OEM the kit for TRD. It puts the filter right by the curent hole in the fender where the cold air comes in, so you might have to modify the new filter enclosure.

2) The TRD CAI kit has changed, and I don't know what it's like now, but I think it's essentially just a replacement filter. I also went with the AFE because they offer a dry filter versus an oiled filter. And it's a lot cheaper than a TRD kit.

3) The TRD CAI doesn't work with the TRD supercharger.

TRD supercharger AND CAI will work with upgrade made by URD.

Sorry, that got sent before I finished. Darn droid. What I meant to say was I agree...but after research I have found an upgrade from URD that will let you run the Supercharger kit from TRD with TRD CAI. Ill look for the link over on Tacoma World. I also agree about the snorkel and CAI. Not sure if those will complement eaxh other very well........either way, dreaming. Id rather spend money travelling. I guess I am conflicted like that.

I think some minor upgrades are in my future, but honestly the supercharger is out of reach as long as I am spending $2,700 a month on day care/school for my kids.

Roger- is yours a sealed box like the TRD CAI? If so id like to check it out. I like the idea of a dry filter as well. Do you have a pic of yours? You may be able to convince me its a better buy than the TRD. Thanks for the idea.

http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-builds/128687-2-weeks-work-new-goodies-my-build-thread-3.html

Here is a guy running the TRD CAI with the TRD Supercharger. Not sure what the advantage of this combo wouls be. No snorkel though.

Enough on that.....no more thread jacking as its off topic.

Roger: found it. Looks like a great alternative. I wonder if you could mod this to mate with the snorkel?
