Out rescuing some buddies whose mountain bikes mudded up and they could no longer ride down before nightfall.

Anyhow I busted a shock and need to source a new one. I recall needing to purchase mine in pairs 10 years ago. Is this still true? Who has a good source for ordering these puppies or a set they wanna get rid of? I have HD springs in the rear. Any help always appreciated as usual.

Or a different option would be to try a different brand, any suggestions? Im not afraid to spend less money on KYB, ProComp, etc.... But  I had no problems with the OME until now...

Happy Halloween!

Ryan,

I like OME and if you have had good history with them, there is no reason to change.

I bought my last pair through Columbia Rovers, even though I don't own a Rover.  Their price was close to others and they had great service.  They are also a site sponsor, so that tipped my decision a bit too.

I'll give you a set of 4 Bilstein shocks that have low mileage and that are in great shape **if** you come over to my house and swap in the OME shocks I have sitting in my utility room. My knee is all busted up or I'd swap em myself and give em to you. The Bilsteins are a very good shock, they work great, and are a perfect match for an OME spring lift. You can drive my truck around to test em out before-hand if you want.

Why am I giving them away free? The truck w/ the OME HD lift and nearly new Bilsteins was given to me by a good friend. The OMEs were given to me for free by Scott Brady. The least I can do is pass it along to the next guy.

Give Bilstein a try, and if you can get a set free . . . .
I've never had any problems and they've worked well for me in my Toyotas + IIRC, they have a lifetime warranty

Craig- What's the deal with your knee? We have been hearing about this for a while, is there a fix for it?

Free, good shape Bilstiens will trump buying an OME shock anyday...

What type of vehicle is this for? I have some used bilsteins from my gen II taco.

Depending on the make I have bought from wheelers offroad in Oregon. Used to get OME from East Side custom truck but they are gone now I think to Port Angeles.

I'm pretty sure it's for Ryan's Land Rover Discovery 1.

I messed it up during a night time winching task at the NW Challenge.  Hopefully it will be all better with a minor surgery, a couple of months rest, and a bit of physical therapy.

I can vouch for the Bilstiens, they have taken quite a beating on my rover. I have also run the OME 2 inch lift on a past Disco and enjoyed the ride quality, but the Bilstiens are built more burley.

Craig- this is a good time of year to go under the knife, to heal up before the weather could possibly get nice.

Luke - I'm guessing you have 7100s on that truck. The ones I have are the standard shocks that are more like the OMEs.

Yeah, it probably is a good time of year.  I'm just grumpy because I was busy working all summer and never had a vacation.  I was planning on several offroading trips this fall and a trip to Disneyland w/ my family all of which I've had to miss.  So, I'm still pissed off that I won't be able to go have some fun until later in the winter/early spring.

I'm now to a point where I'm seriously considering an easy trail to go camping and just bringing a couple of good friends along that won't mind helping me out if my truck breaks, gets stuck, etc.  I am in SERIOUS need of some outdoor sleeping, campfire laughter, and stars.

In the meantime, I'm working at the computer and spending some of the money getting the truck all set for whenever I'm ready.

No problem Ryan. Just let me know when you want to do it. Is that steroid injection your way of enticing me to help with the swap?

Craig let me know when you guys want to do this and maybe I can help out with a garage, compressor and air tools. Will let Ryan do the work and we can drink beer!

That sounds great. My carport stinks this time of year for this sort of thing. If we get enough guys together we could do all four wheels at once pit crew style, then move on to installing the mountain of accessories I have sitting in my utility room on the RRC. "Roverhaulin" -- groan.

BIG BUMP!

I have been soo busy Craig, sorry to have fallen out of contact! I remain interested but still cant find time...

I found an online shop: Rocky Road

Has anyone dealt with this group? Their return policy is for "store credit only" which can seem shady. A pretty good price for OME HD rear shocks...

I will still do the injection!

No worries Ryan. I haven't been around anyway. I'm around now. Just let me know if you want em. I understand if you would rather push the easy button and order some.

If you are going to order them, call Todd at Columbia Rovers in Portland and mention the NW Overland Society.
