| Looking for a place that should be warmer than here, so I'm thinking probably further than Cle Elum. Could be over any of the passes. It just needs to be something that doesn't require a hike in, since the wife doesn't have a suitable pack. |

| Look at the State Wildlife areas and National Forests north and south of Wenatchee, adjacent to the Columbia River. E.g. Wenatchee NF east of Leavenworth, Colockum Wildlife Area, Quilomene Wildlife Area, LT Murray Wildlife Area (south of Ellensburg).

| So I read the Fortune Creek summary from nw jeepn, and it really sounds like the Salmon La Sac area I usually end up going, but the lake at the top of that trail as far as I've know is called something like Tuqualla (sp). I know cause when we first found it fresh out of high school we called it lake Tequila. Very confused, I might have to take better pictures this year to get to the bottom of it. |

| Ah, I looked at the PDF map and get it now. We've always gone up the Van Epps Pass trail. |

Not really anyplace I'd reccomend in particular. I've been through all of them at one time or another but have only camped in the Quilomene.

| With all the snow this year it's going to keep you down lower. Maybe Mazama/Winthrop area? Or go poke around the Quilomene along the river? I'd probably try the latter just because it's closer. There are lots of lonesome camps that should be accessible if it's still snowed in up higher. I'll keep thinkin.... |

| I'm thinking winthrop might be a little too far considering we're trying to get to a spot friday night after work. |

| Yeah, I've been looking for a shortcut to Winthrop for years now.... I didn't come up with any great ideas even though i tried. If it's just for the weekend, Quilomene should keep you busy and hot if the weather comes through like they predict. |

| We actually picked up a camping book that lists sites primitive and otherwise, so we're going to pick something out of there hopefully. It's not 100% complete, but is a good starting point. Will let everyone know how it turns out. |

| "With all the snow this year it's going to keep you down lower. Maybe Mazama/Winthrop area?" Just FYI, in case anyone was thinking of using Hwy 20 to get there: SR 20 - Closed to traffic on SR 20 in both directions from West Avalanche Gate 14 miles east of Newhelem to 9 miles west of Mazama at the Silver Star Gate since 1:14 PM, 05/15/08 until further notice due to avalanche and Avalanche Control Work
From milepost 134 to milepost 171 The North Cascades Highway is closed and will remain closed all weekend due to avalanche danger. Crews will return Monday, May 19, to assess the avalanche and road conditions. One snowslide has already come across the highway at Liberty Bell Mountain (milepost 165). Crews were able to move most of the snow to ensure that travelers could leave the passes. The gates are closed at milepost 134 on the west side and 170.6 on the east side. Drivers should check mountain pass conditions for all passes in the state before traveling this weekend. Pass conditions can be found at www.wsdot.wa.gov or by calling traveler information at 5-1-1. |

| meh.
Scouted a couple places over the weekend, and sounds like we're going to go for Icicle creek. Nothing really primitive there, but at least services are limited right now. |

| Icicle creek is beautiful. Kinda crowded on Memorial Day weekend, but a great place to explore. I hope everything works out and that you have a great time.

| I'm thinking we might luck out with the campground that is at the very top of the road. The river had overflowed over the road, and was about halfway up my wheels. There was a Road Closed sign that had been moved to the side, and I spoke to one of the officials around, and he said it was just to deter people with non 4x4's to not try it. Once we got past that there were a few more campgrounds with space, and the one at the top said it wasn't charging a fee. So hopefully that will help with the crowding.
I'll be leaving around 5pm from Bothell.
BTW, anyone that is looking for something to do is welcome to join of course. |

| Not sure of the flood watch status for Icicle Creek, but here's what the Wenatchee River looked like Sunday morning in Tumwater Canyon. It was REALLY movin'! The water over the dam is usually a couple of inches of smooth water flowing over. |
