| Any ideas for good multi-day trips for 2009? I'd like to do Lord Flat again before it closes, but that is a short window between early July and late August. It would be good to figure out some late spring trips, maybe somewhere I/we have not been to before. I am thinking the Whipsaw would be fun as well. Applegate trail? Route 2 OBDR? Another Steens trip? Post up if you have ideas on good trips for planning next season. If you can lead one, GREAT! but not neccesary. I am thinking 3-5 day trips, but post longer ones if you want. Let's get the plans a planning! Edit by Craig EVENTS

| I am looking at continuing the Trans American Trail (TAT) this summer. I will continue from somewhere halfway across Oklahoma and hopefully make the Oregon coast in 2-3 weeks. I will start a new post when I get more details. In the meantime, please ask any questions that you may have. | | | |

| Todd, I'm still game for Lord Flat sometime. I've never been and definately want to go once.
Seems like Eastern Oregon is a good place for winter and spring trips. Washington is snowed in, or closed for wildlife and/or erosion concerns at that time of year. Nathan,
Is that trail limited to motorcycles or can you drive that trail? -- Some trips that I always have my eye on but will be lucky to do one of them (time off work): - Canol Rd in the NWT and Yukon. I'd like to go past Dechenla Lodge and spend several days observing nature on foot. 600 miles on dirt, with one 300 mile stretch with no fuel available. I'm not sure I can get the time off. I believe the BC Roverlanders are now considering this for 2009 too so I might just tag along with them if I decide to do this. It would *have* to happen in August. Too early and you can't get the trucks across the rivers (too fast/deep), too late and you are snowed in. Something in Arizona, California, or Utah. I saw a post on Expo about the "best" expedition trails and there were several to choose from. If I'm travelling to promote Overland Navigator I'll try and work some of these in. You guys are always welcome of course! Alexander Mackenzie Trail in BC Mexico -- Baja and other areas.

| I'm planning on going somewhere sunny and dryish the second week of April. I was thinking maybe Death Valley, but eastern Oregon might be an option too.
I'd like to go to Lords Flat too.

| haha... I think it was about this time last year we started dreaming about trips and Todd came up with the Steens-Alvord idea. Last night I started making some prints from that trip and it sure is fun reliving it. Man. What a beautiful place. | | | |

| We should look for some trails in Idaho as well. I remember reading about a couple... I have my red marker ready to do some more planning! :) | | | |

| That might be doable, especially as I know more about what i am doing now. Certainly not a bad way to spend a week. | | | |

| I wanna drive Everett to Albuquerque or grand junction junction as much off highway as possible. I just need an FLDS guide for Utah. Navajo Nation is an amazing place with totally uncharted areas
At the least I am game for a WA or OR transverse to historical sites. Lord flats sounds good, as does Idaho

| Grant, what is a FLDS guide? Here's a Utah traverse link with awesome pictures: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?p=23108#post23108. I have the big Charles Wells Utah book, which could almost get you across the state on dirt. | | | |

| Nathan,
Is that trail limited to motorcycles or can you drive that trail? Craig, The trail was pieced together from 2-tracks, forest roads, fire roads, secondary roads, and overland travel. The creator of the whole thing is a dual-sport rider, so most people that know about it are dual-sporters (this is how I found it). The only limiting factor in the journey could be places that a 4-wheel vehicle cannot make it through. . . we haven't found any of these yet (except for a couple of bridges out). The trail curator thought it a novel idea to take the Jeep on the journey, and as yet, I have not found anyone else that has attempted it. It has been a lot of fun and I look forward to more time on the trail. I would love for a caravan of overlanders to join.

Nate... you've been around here long enough that I'm going to pick on you in the hopes of helping everyone get better at posting links.
When posting a link, highlight it and press the button in the toolbar with a globe and a small chain link on it. Then paste the URL into the URL field. That way we can all click on a hyperlink instead of having to copy/paste the link into our browser. E.g. instead of http://www.expeditionexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?p=23108#post23108 you'll get http://www.expeditionexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?p=23108#post23108 If you forget to do it when using the Quick Reply box, press the "edit" link next to the post and you'll be taken to the advanced editor where you can fix it. Nathan,
I'll look more closely at that trail. It looks interesting too. Is it technical at all?

Craig,
The most technical section that I've found is a couple of creek crossings, where the bridge has been out and one section of road that probably hasn't been a real road for a few years. It had some 2ft drops on it. Most of the trail from Jellico, TN to mid-OK has been back roads with few exceptions. I look forward to the more westerly sections as being both more challenging and unique, due to elevation and some pictures I have seen.

Nate- an FLDS guide is unfortunately not a book but a fella with several wives.
Thanks for the link- This gives me some ideas- West side of the state is unknown to me, east side I pretty well know where I want to head- my buddies in Grand Junction have been all over it. I'll look into the Charles Wells book- may need to own that to plan this trek

| Grant, I see. Are you worried about the locals, or do you just want to chat with his wives? | | | |
