Work on clearing the North Cascades Highway is coming along.  Last year, Nate's family and I took a trip over the first weekend they were open.  It's pretty impressive to see the swath that they cut through the snow and a really great way to go on a snowshoeing trip.

They clear small parking areas at all the hiking trailheads that intersect with the highway.  You pull in, climb up the 15-20 foot wall of snow and start your snowshoeing trip really deep into some of the wildest mountains in the PNW.

I'm looking forward to a drive though that area but might wait until I can see something besides a wall of snow, I've seen snow ;)

We're waiting with baited breathe for the pass to open and plan to head over the first weekend it's open. You, or anyone else, are welcome to join us for a day or three.

I was up at Ross Lake this last weekend for a hiking trip. Not much snow around the lake, and the road was dry as a bone up to the East Bank Trailhead. Funny thing is, Ross Lake is about 100 feet low this year. You would think with all the snow, it would be overflowing. Cant wait to get out to the Pasayten when the highway opens.
