Next week my wife and I are loading up our DII and heading to Helena, MT for a few days. I've spent the past few days preparing the truck with a transmission fluid and filter change, fresh grease for the drive line, and a tire rotation.

In all likelihood we will just roll down the highway the entire trip, but I should be able to do a little exploring while in Helena. Does anyone have recommendations for backroads to explore or off-the-beaten path sights in the Helena area?

We stayed at the white sandy campground about 15 years ago. It was a pretty cool little campground, no hook ups or anything just a nice veiw of the river. It's right next to the black sandy state park if I remember. The nice thing about montana is that all you have to do is get outside the city limits and you feel like your exploring.

Forgot....The campground is just NE of Helana on the river that feeds into Lake Helana.

It's kind of a scenic loop, but I would cut over to Jackson from Idaho Falls and go up through The Park from there. Depending on how fast you want to get there though, there's alot of construction around Jackson right now. There's no better time to go through Yellowstone than the fall, but hurry, it's getting late.
