On Saturday my girlfriend and I packed up the disco for an overnighter in the snow -

I90 was a breeze; clean and clear with no snow or standing water on the road, once we hit the Denny Creek exit, it was a different story.
We found about 2 inches of packed snow, 6 to 8 inches of fluffly snow and then 12 to 14 inches of built up snow along the road to the Franklin Falls trailhead.
The external temp readout on the dash said it was 32 degrees outside- The hike up to Franklin Falls was pretty easy, granted it's only 1 mile.

After reaching the Falls and taking some pictures we let the dogs off their leashes to play for a while and began unpacking our gear to set up camp.

We cooked dinner using our JetBoil systems - It makes a perfect Mac and Cheese and Beef Stroganoff !

I think we got in our tent around 6PM (It was completely dark by this time) spent some time BSing and reading together - About 3AM we woke up, packed up and went home.

I highly recommend this drive and spot for anyone that wants a short drive to get into the snow.

We are going back this weekend for more, and possibly snowshoeing.

Funny Story:

About 1:15AM my girlfriend and I were sitting up....now, we thought we were the only people in the area...and all of a sudden we hear a sharp whistle and a voice say "Hello, who's there" Needless to say we both froze wide eyed looking at eachother...shortly after I had sat on my cell phone and dialed one of my friends.

why 3am?

I'm curious too and photos would be awesome (click the button on the toolbar with the mountain/sun on it, then use the Upload tab on the window that pops open).

We'll be available for the run on the 9th -

I'll post some pictures when I get home, I decided to write this while at work, minus my camera.

As for leaving at 3am - well, we had a good amount of sleep and when we got up our dogs were seriously unhappy...the tent had formed puddles from the condensation of being set up on top of snow pack.

Synthetic bags for them are on order soon!

Giving up a sleeping bag for the dogs is pretty funny, but also says a lot about your girlfriend. She sounds like she is a good person. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys.
