Purchased a new camping stove today at Wholesale Outdoors It is a Primus Eta Express (69.00). I needed a small compact all in one cook system for this up coming ski season. The biggest reasons for this stove was price, a compairable Jet Boil was 99.00. I boiled 16 oz of water tonight in about 90 seconds. Not smoking fast but not bad for the money. The outside temp was 52 mild wind.

Very nice! I haven't used isobutane cannisters during the winter months yet. How well do they work at sub-freezing temps?

Not so good Dale. I've posted a few reviews/blog articles on the performance of different fuel types in the past. There are a few tricks:

- Keep the cannister inside your sleeping bag at night, or warm it next to your body before cooking.
- New/full cannisters work best.
- Shake them to keep the different gases mixed up
- Cook in an area out of the wind

In real world experience, as long as you keep the cannister warm it will work out down to about 20-25 degrees. Personally, I cook with white gas in the winter. Mike should be OK since he'll be in his pickup (as long as he doesn't suffocate - grin).

Should work out O.K. as I heat the back of my truck to about 70 at night, then will wrap them up in my sleeping bag while I ski. Windows always open at least an inch.

Oddly enough, I recently took apart my JetBoil to do maintenance and the regulator says Primus clearly on it and looks suprisingly similar to that one. With a differrent burning element however, I think they are fairly similar.

Welcome to the new world of marketing. A few factories seem to produce everything in any given field these days. Am in the process of picking up a new pair of motorcycle boots. They are made in a factory in Italy. The same factory makes an identical boot, sans propeller oval for another company which sells them for $100 more!

It is really good to have groups like this so that we can evaluate products and find good deals for one another. so, thanks to all for your input!

but it is nice to know I can steal parts from a buddy when they are sleeping and have them get the cold cup of coffee in the morning...

Have another drink Danno!
