After breaking what feels like my 49th bag chair, I am on the hunt for the ultimate camping chair. OK I'm not exactly petite, but I'm not Shamu the Whale either. Nonetheless I still break them as fast as I can buy them.  I would love a traditonal bag chair style if anyone makes a really high quality one, but as yet am yet to find such an animal. Other options seem to be the Kermit chair and I read a few opinions on it on here. Any other suggestions? I'm for a trip to the Jarbidge Nevada area this Friday and I'm sure by the time a get home I will have killed chair number 50..... but luckily I  borrowed my wife's for this trip.

I have two of these and they are compact, very comfy, pretty stout, and fairly well made: http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1011

One of the handle pop rivets has come off, but otherwise fine.

Would love to hear about about your Jarbridge trip when you get back.

Thanks I'll take a look at those. I thought about trying to post some pictures of the upcoming trip until my wife informed me I can't take the camera because she thinks she needs it to take pictures of the new (first) grandkid while I'm gone. Boy that woman has some strange priorities. Maybe I can get copies from one of my buddies that is going with me.

Check out the ARB chairs. http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1047

I don't have the ARB ones but I do have similar ones with the hard arms. So far they seem beefier than the fabric arms. I bought mine at the bi-mart in Beaverton OR last year for 20 bucks each.

Being a big guy myself, I like the folding director chairs that include a nice side table.  They are sturdy, don't feel wobbly, are very light actually less than my bag chair and most importantly, comfortable.  Check a few different kinds as just like any product some are better than others but this will give you an idea of what I'm talking about : www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Mahco-Directors-Camp-Chair-w-Side-Table/productDetail/Chairs/prod9999009971/cat100884

I like the Kermit, but I find myself always wanting more.  I love that it packs down so small.  That comes at a price of being so low to the ground and being pretty awkward to get in and out of.

Snow Peak has a model called the Low Beach Chair that is pretty nice.  It isn't so low to the ground and it is more comfortable than the Kermit.  It has a quality feel like everything that Snow Peak makes.  They used to have them at REI, but I think they stopped carrying it.   I might get one of those and see how it goes.

Hey Mike.

You do know that Kermit makes leg extensions right? Or is that even with the leg extensions it is  too low.

Joe, I haven't tried the leg extensions.  Frankly, I think it takes too long to assemble the chair without the extensions, so I don't want to go down the road of more time and complexity.  My brother has a Snow Peak Take! Bamboo chair that he can open up and be seated quicker than I can even get the Kermit out of the bag.  I get grief about it every time we go out.

I also have one of theXpress Lounger Arm Chair from Sierra.
I like it a lot, and I also use it at work on sunny days to take lunch outside under a shade tree behind my rig.

From Mt. Rainier last year.

But for the ultimate comfort, I have both a large (now retired for my porch), and a standard size Cabelas lounger that is one of those zero gravity chairs, and you can sleep in it too.
It is the most comfortable camp chair I have ever sat or napped in.
The large size is the one pictured below.

Thanks for all the input. Now I just have to narrow it down to the perfect chair. Although, I did just get back from 4 days in the Owyhee desert, didn't make it to Jarbidge for various reasons and I am happy to say that I used my wife's chair the whole time and didn't break it !!

John

I believe those are from the Campaign Furniture Company:  http://www.campaignfurniturecompany.com/products/chair.html

Nice handmade chairs.  Hope you're sitting down when you see the prices.

Kermit now has a "Big Boy" chair for those of us who are dimensionally challenged. I really love my regular sized one, and because I bought it for use on the bike, I'm not interested in the leg extensions.
