I have been invied to go with Uncle Terry on a trip to Death Valley. He is spending his retirement travling around the US by car. After a few harrowign stories of trying to find historic sites by car my wife and I conviced him to buy a proper truck. He liked our Discovery 1 so I found one for him. His bolg is here.

We are driving to Las Vegas to meet two friends and then we will tour Death Valley for two weeks. I am not much for bloging but will do my best to keep pictures and details coming.

Made it to Salem. Stopped in PDX to buy a nice set of head lights form my SchoolBus project. In Salem Terry and I divied up some gear and I gave a quick class on the high lift jack. I took a few minutes and put a nice flat wind on my winch. There is a discussion of my winch mount project here. The $75 MileMarker I bought at the Portland ABFM works like a champ. Even if you are not into Land Rovers the swap meet has great deals! I also must say that MileMarker has great support. I emailed them a picture of the winch and they emailed me a manual in less than 1 hour.  Here is a picture of Zoë ready to leave. Thank you to Gord'n and Lamorna Garage for tons of help getting ready to do this trip.

We left Salem early today in the rain and stayed wet for most of the trip to Reno.

We stoped in Adin California for ice cream cones

And with an hour left on the drive Zoë finaly sees her shadow.

Our route today was
I5, Hwy 58, Hwy 97, Gas in Klamith Falls where we picked up Hwy 39, then Hwy 139. Hwy 139 from Eagle lake to Susanville was truly amazing! It would have been grate fun in a sports car. Alas I was trying to keep the top heavy Zoë on her wheels and took it carefully. From Susanville we took Hwy 36 to 395 and on into Reno. We covered several passes and were reminded the Rover 4.0 does not have much go. I am dreaming of a Isuzu diesel conversion.

Great to see someone getting out. I'm going crazy at home, but the TODO list on the RRC is insanely tall w/ no time to even start working on it. Living vicariously through you is all I have left. Keep the fixes coming. I need my crack.

Epic day yesterday. we were turned around near the top of south pass by 24 in snow with 36in drifts and very high winds. We were simply not equipped for an arctic suck fest.

Camp at the lipincot mine.

uline flats

An old ford convention at stove pipe wells.

Looked around Beatty NV this morning.

Some trucks that handle wash board better than mine.

Ammo cans!

A cool basis for a trailer project.

I remember seeing that place in Beatty when I travelled through there last October. Couldn't find anyone manning it so I had to move on. Too bad to because I kind of wanted to grab a few things.

If a trip happens next year I will make arangments to stop there. The place seems to be assoceated with the rv park next door. I would also feel fine putting cash under his door. All the prices are marked.

I've spent the last 2 hours reading your uncle's blog and looking at his pictures. What a great way to spend a retirement. It would be cool to be able to travel with him for awhile. I doubt I could get 58 days off from work though.
