I'll tell you when I get home. LOL!!!
gpsbable might work. I have some other tools at home that I can't remember the name of.
If I get it converted tonight, I'll send it to ya

I was wondering the same thing, and didn't see it listed in GPS Babel's supported formats. I didn't work very hard at it though. My solution is to just use DeLorme's Topo software.

We can look into exporting the data in a different format if that will help. I've got to run out right now, but I'll play with it a little later.

This may be a lesson in why you should ultimately buy my software instead of DeLorme's though. ;)

yeah, i tried gpsbabel to no avail.  i wonder if you can save as a more generic option in Delorme Topo?  i understand it to be the better program compared to my old mapsource topo, but i caint afferd 2 upgradeÂ

the national geographic topos were supposed to be really good for off-roadin', but you need a laptop or carputer to make those work with a simple gps like mine.  Â

Looked a bit further and I don't think the Topo projects are compatible with anything. Saw something mentioning a copyright on the file format, they think it's so cool.

If it were just a route, it'd be easy to export. But looking at the raw data, Dan put a number of comments and such in there that other programs wouldn't normally use.

I've converted everything to a pseudo csv file format.  I can fairly easily get this file converted into a GPX file or two manually, and can actually create a little program to automate the process if we are going to wind up doing this more than a time or two. Before I do this, I thought you guys could take a look at the text...

Perhaps you guys can edit it and just slurp it in as a CSV file somehow (I don't know MapSource).  I've attached the file.

The file format is very easy to understand.  There are three types of features.  SYMBOL, NOTE, and SPLINE.Â
A SYMBOL or NOTE is just a POI in

longitude, latitude, text

a SPLINE is an arc, so it is represented by a series of lon/lats.

arghh, I'm now officially frustrated, but for other reasons and this isn't super easy like I want it to be.

I'll try again tomorrow. the POI loader didn't like some of it.

I loaded it through GPSBabel and its a crazy amount of waypoints. Any way to capture the route info in this? I read that Topo 6.0 can import and export .GPX, is this wat you are using?  If so, please post the .GPX version.

Thanks

It's not a CSV file and can't be directly loaded with GPS Babel without first editing it. Only the SYMBOL and NOTE sections (open it in notepad and look at it) are POIs. The SPLINE sections are meant to be a series of points or waypoints, where each section is one leg of the route. GPS Babel is each lon/lat in the leg as a different waypoint.

I'll write a program that will convert it but I might not have it done right away.

Version 6.0 of DeLorme Topo supports GPX. I'd upgrade, but I'd rather have the code to do the conversion for my own program.

Ok, so I made the top part of the file into a garmin POI file and it loaded up.

Now I'm trying this on the other csv file

Ok, that last tool seemed to work well. Made a nice GPX of thePOI file I made by hand.
Just not doing routes so well. I can probably do them all as points but that'd be annoying. Some of the roads Dan notes aren't on the Mapsource map, but I'll have a Gazetter along as well.

Thanks for all the work Dan and Craig, see you tomorrow!

I added gpx as an allowable file extensions for attachments. It should allow you to do it from now on.
