| I finally found the perfect Rover for me. I have been looking for a clean, low mileage Disco with a manual trans., cloth and a 5-speed for quite a while. Here it is. I just picked it up on Friday in UT. It was owned by a minister and is literaly within 10% of a new vehicle inside.

It will be featured as a mild build in Overland Journal, with a focus on addressing the minor issues with the platform, slight gain in clearance and moderate trail enhancements. The balance will be expedition modifications for communications, navigation and storage. I am like a kid at x-mas :)

| Yeah Centerville, I will be picking up our '04 on Saturday -- from Centerville!
...it's a long story, but basically it came down to the strange fact that buying a certified used '04 SE7 was cheaper than keeping our '03 S7 -- strange, but true!
I like the look of that truck, very nice! Keep us up to date on the build.

| :) I knew you wouldn't be able to live w/o one for very long... Land Rover's foster co-dependent relationships with their owners. ;) | | | |

| Congrats Scott. Looking forward to learning about your upgrades. Very cool! Can you share some ideas on what you are doing before the Overland Journal article? Very interested in the storage ideas you have.

| It will get a diesel, for sure. Most likely a 200TDI with a 5-speed and maxi-drive low range set. | | | |

| Now were talking! I know Jim K has a few of them. Do you know Jim, great guy? I think he is in Mesa AZ. Although I think he has 300TDI's | | | |

| Why the 200 over the 300 over the 2.8 over the 3.0 (or whatever came after the 2.8)? | | | |

| I am not sold on the 200TDI completely, but it does have the reputation of being the most reliable and simple. This build is going to be very understated overall (visually), with a heavy emphasis on reliability and durability. | | | |

| One of the biggest things, IMO, is not having any electrical needs on the engine. On my 300 TDI, Scott replaced the fuel injection pump with a mechanical one without the EGR. The only electrical truly needed is the fuel cutoff solenoid, and I understand it can be bypassed with some knowledge.
The 200 and 300 TDI's are fairly similar, but I think you want to make sure it is a discovery spec 300 TDI as I have heard the Defender one mounts differently. I think the 200TDI is universal, I may be full of it though, mostly advice given from a number of folks.
I should have the 300TDI RRC back Friday night. I'll post some pictures Sunday.

| this is where I normally insert a snide comment about Scott and fuel cut off solenoids, but I'm not going to this time. nope, not gunna.
When the ZF on my truck goes out I'll get a 5-speed as well. Or maybe not. For the wheeling I do, the auto is nice and around town. But I've had some problems with the Passat as of late and I love being able to bump start it. Right now the 110 is running off a Jerry can in the front seat because of a plugged fuel line. I love the simplicty of diesels and if I were to travel outside the country much I'd really like the 5 speed. It truly only needs that one wire for the fuel solenoid if you can bump start it. The mechanical fuel pump in the 2.8 is pretty much bullet proof and can easily be bypassed with any fuel pump putting out at least 6psi or so.
Ripping the ECU out of the 110 was one of the most fun things I ever did to that truck.

| Nice discovery, i will be keeping an eye out for that diesel build up, especially since it's going to be mated the 5speed, lucky for you i won't be around RE-USE your old fuel line even if it is too short. | | | |
