Anyone do any wrenching this week?  Anyone get a new goodie for Christmas and get it installed?

I haven't done anything lately but I have a pile of projects waiting to go onto the truck in preparation for a series of upcoming shows.

Replace Exhaust Studs
Replace radiator (minor leak)
Fix engine/tranny leaks
Install NWOS badge
Replace Steering wheel
Replace Passenger rear door lock
Replace Passenger Front Seat controls
Replace Door seals
Install Jumper cable quick disconnect plug
Replace drivers interior kick panel
Replace Driver rear Cargo area panel
Replace driver side seat heater element
Install heated mirrors
Install ladder
Mount shovel to ladder
Pull, sandblast, and repaint front/rear bumpers and sliders
Mount axe on rear door
Mount Fire extinguisher on rear door
Install Overland Navigator/Spatial Minds decals
Install Bluetooth TNC/GPS for APRS and add APRS to Overland Navigator

Lordy.... I should have never put that into a list.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff.

I just need to replace the broken headlight that came about due to the boulders that ODOT left on the roads for traction... Then I'll install my upgraded wiring harness and new bulbs! That's about it for now.

But then...

New PS box
Possibly new Alternator, probably won't touch this for a few months as I think it's just a bearing going out, Output is currently fine.

I re-organized my rear storage box. And installed a new stereo in the trooper. Also got permission from the Isuzu gods to re-badge it. In Australia troopers are rebadged by Holden and called Jackaroos..I got a grill emblem sent over and had some side decals made. Now I have a 1986 Holden Jackaroo...

Things to get done......New front steel brakelines, CB antenna, mount shovel to the roof rack.

Crikey, that's a lot of work there Craig. I'll volunteer to help Brian drink beers and watch.

You and Brian are too kind. The kind of buddies a guy can count on.
I'll drink my own beer thank you... besides, I don't have any Pabst, so you and Brian won't like it.

Fortunately, every item on my list is cosmetic or non-critical.

Radiator - under warranty
oil leaks - typical Rover seap.. less than 1/8th of a quart per oil change
Rest - cosmetic or accessory modifications.

Got the CO2 Tank refilled today.  :)

Any pics of the new emblems?  That's pretty cool actually.  I've been thinking about your truck lately.  Isuzu makes some good diesel engines.  Do any of them bolt right in to your truck?  Does your truck have solid axles?  Coil suspension?  Disk brakes?

Start with that NWOS badge Craig.  It'll only take a short time and you can tick off one task before tonight's dinner.

Good advice Ed. There are a bunch of pretty easy items like that on the list that will shorten it right up.

The diesel for the Isuzu troopers are rare here in the states. they did import a few. A good price for and 86 trooper turbo diesel is still around $3000.00. I need to find a Isuzu pup diesel and swap the motor in, it's a direct bolt in with my tranny. My troo...I mean Jackaroo is IFS front with a isuzu 10 bolt rear(almost comparable to dana 44 stength wise) drum breaks though. Leaf springs in the back with HD torsion bars up front.
Heres some real quick shots..

I finally ran a dedicated non-switched power wire to the 12v plug by the radio (former cigar lighter, now Marinco locking outlet). That also gets me unswitched power for the GPS, so it will not be burning the AA batteries when the truck is not running. Now three of the four 12v plugs in the truck are unswitched, only the one on the back of the cubby still switches with the ignition.

I also made peace with the loss of my main audio amp -- the a/d/s PQ10 I found on eBay died -- and wired the front speakers directly to the head unit. According to the specs it puts out 30-ish wpc, and it certainly plays loud enough for me. The rear speakers are running off the extra two channels of the original a/d/s PQ8 amp, and two channels are feeding the sub. If anything, the stereo sounds better now.

I still want to fabricate some kind of alternate 3rd brake light. My swing-away tire mount blocks the original light in the rear glass. At night it's still kind of visible, but during the day it isn't. The brake lights on the RRC are rather feeble, and I'd rather not get hit, even though my girder of a rear bumper almost guarantees Thirsty won't be damaged.

I also need to get a new resistor for the heater fan so I have more than one speed. At least the one that works is high, so it pumps out plenty of heat when needed.

Replaced the poles on the tarp shelter over the pinz that the snow had crushed. Really bent the thing up.

I saw Troopers in Chile that were Chevy Troopers. Same vehicle, and I did also see some Izusu Troopers, so I don't what the marketing agreement was. I know the Chevy LUV was built by Izusu.

I think the Suzuki Sidekick takes the award for the most names used world wide for the same vehicle. So far I have found: Suzuki Sidekick, Suzuki Vitara, Mazda Proceed Levante, GMC Tracker, Chevrolet Tracker, Geo Tracker, Asüna Sunrunner, Pontiac Sunrunner, Chevrolet Vitara, and Chevrolet Grand Vitara...

I want to buy a Sidekick and get names badges for all these and put them on the back...

Brian

(Edit) I just reread the Wiki page for these vehicles. Add these names: Santana 300, Santana 350, Suzuki Escudo, Suzuki Grand Escudo.

Hmmm, I have wondered for years if the Pup diesel would drop into an Amigo... Seems like such a cool project. The Isuzu line seems well respected for having a strong drivetrain.

If the Amigo had a 4cyl w/ 5 speed and you found a 4cyl diesel, it would bolt right up to the tranny. I,ve been told that the block for my 2.3gas is the same block used for the C223 isuzu diesel..the Non turbo only puts out like 75 hp and the Turbo one I think bumps it to 100. My gas 4 banger is around 110? ......anybody wanna drag race?

I'm not selling for now.  Job prospects could change that.

I have to say,  it's REALLY frustrating that RRC's and Discos get so little respect (translation $ value).  I've said it before -- no disrespect to the Defenders, but for example, is there really a $47,000 difference in value between my truck and Peter's?  I know a D110 is a rare bird in the US, and Peter's truck has the diesel and other goodies, but most stock D90's sell for over $20k.  Seems like a well sorted RRC would bring $10k, but realistically, I doubt my truck will bring the $3500 that I paid for it stock.  All the mods and upgrades fall in the category of "sunk cost".

OK, I'll stop whinging now...

I understand... it's why I still have my DII after trying to sell it last year to get into a diesel RRC. When I do switch rigs, I'm going to buy the other truck, move my goodies over, then either part it out or just sell it for whatever I can get. Shoot, the engine alone would probably fetch $2500.
