Alright, per Craig's request I hesitantly will put this in here and then as time goes on will update this string with photo's and commentary!  The very first "piece" of this project is being done as we speak!  I pick it up from Parker Toyota tomorrow with the factory TRD Supercharger and Cat-back exhaust installed!  I will attach a pick or two tomorrow!  If I can figure out how to do it!  So far I am unable to find a way to add photographs here!  haha!

Below is the "finished" (we all know how that word isn't in the off-roader's or gear-head's vocabulary) build sheet I put together for this truck!  Things will change as I find out what works and what doesn't, but for the most part this is what will have been done to the Tacoma upon completion!!!   Myself and two very good friends at All-Pro and Magnum will be involved in this venture!!

2010 SUPERCHARGED TOYOTA TACOMA PROJECT

(2010 Tacoma Double Cab / Short Box)

DRIVETRAIN

:

- All-Pro Off-Road Dana 60 Hy-Pinion front-end STRAIGHT AXLE conversion

with ARB Air-Locker and ARB upgraded air-lines! (all HD components)

- All-Pro Off-Road Rock Jock Hy-Pinion 60 rear axle conversion with

ARB Air-Locker and ARB upgraded air-lines! (all HD components)

- appropriate lift to run BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2’s in 37x12.50R-17(D)

size with adequate clearance! 5-inches?

- gear reduction box to get FOUR transfer case ratios with some deep gearing for

slow crawling?

- Walker Evans 17” Street Wheels Series 72; black with black anodized ring

- air bump stops

- limiting straps?

- reinforce frame rails and raise gas tank as high as possible!

- HD driveline U-joints front and rear!

- HD drive shafts!

- HD ring and pinion gears of the appropriate ratio when that decision is made!

- lockers to be activated using “safety” switches of some kind!

- dedicated ARB air compressor(s) for lockers (would like to explore having TWO

compressors in system to create a “back-up” redundancy!

- FRAME STIFFENING WHERE NEEDED!!

- All-Pro Off-Road Tacoma Pre-Runner Fenders (rears too if available): color-matched

BODY EXTERIOR AND PROTECTION:

- Magnum Off-Road custom front bumper made from 1¾” or 2” seamless pipe

with the following….

D-shackles where it attaches to frame, Warn Powerplant Dual Force HD winch

(not HP) with 2½ or 5-gallon auxiliary tank mounted in the bed and MasterPull

synthetic winch rope! (see All-Pro Off-Road’s “Baja Taco” project for reference

- Magnum Off-Road custom rear bumper made from 1¾” or 2” seamless pipe

with the following….

swing away tire carrier for spare tire (CENTERED) with a 60” Hi-Lift

X-TREME Jack and 5-gallon tilt water jug rack on either side, integrated rock sliders,

two “pull” points with D-shackles where it attaches to the frame, receiver hitch!

(see 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine’s 2001 Tacoma “Venture Toy”

project for reference), (rear winch would be a nice addition as well)

- Magnum Off-Road full EXO-CAGE(S) with integrated roof racks and a roof access

ladder on one side

- Magnum Off-Road underbody protection and/or skid plates in HD aluminum

- 2 SOLTEK Fuego HID Wide-CORNERING lights (see me for configuration)

* this rack will carry the axe, shovel, MAX Tool, chainsaw, and four 5-gallon

“gerry“ fuel cans in protected carriers where they lay flat?

- 3 SOLTEK Fuego HID Wide-CORNERING lights mounted to back of rear roof

rack in protected “cages” (see me for configuration)

- 1 SOLTEK Stealth XPG LED light bars (you determine length) mounted to each side

of the front roof rack

- auxiliary fuel tank in place of the removed spare tire (will have custom built by

my friend to any spec’s we want

WHEEL WELLS! So this means relocation of all breather tubes, an air intake

“snorkel”, and the exhaust routed up above the canopy

*SOLUTIA security glass for all four sides of the cab! Top of door “deadbolts” on all

four doors!

INTERIOR:

- Truck Vault Extreme Series Vault with the following options…

magnum height, folding T-handle lock, composite drawer fronts, 2 short

auxiliary battery system (see below) and Warn remote air tank in front of that

and accessible through the canopy “windoor“! (see me for details)

- remove passenger side rear seat and build “platform” base with both side and top

“lockable” access! Basically a truck ’vault” (this may not work by the way)

NOTES:

* “safety” switches for lockers and compressors

* see me about how to wire lighting

To add a photo, click on "Add Reply" then use the message attachments fields at the bottom of the page.

For a more detailed explanation go to About->FAQ and there's a QA about how to do it either as an attachment or inline.

It is not built yet! I picked up the truck from the dealership two weeks ago! It has been back at Parker Toyota yesterday and today having the Supercharger and Cat-back exhaust put on! They are also putting in a "kill" switch for the entire SRS airbag systen so I can turn it off when I go wheeling! I actually watched a guy in Oregon jump the front end of his new Jeep over a berm landing on the other side only to hit a rock and have the airbag's go off! All of us watching started laughing so hard we couldn't stand it! I think I peed myself it was soooo funny! Then the guy got out and his nose bleeding profusely and I think it was broken! It wasn't so funny then but damn I'll never forget that! Anyway, I vowed never to have an SRS system on in a vehicle I was wheeling in again!

Also having the lame traction control, VSC and all that other "crap" disabled! Can you imagine trying to make it through some sand and having the traction control come on and kill your momentum until you bury yourself! These trucks these days have so many "fluffy" soccer mom gadget's and safety systems it's ridiculous! At least Toyota made it easy to by-pass or disable them!

Oh and the damn thing has an onboard "black box" now that records everything in an. as they call it, "EVENT" and will give that info to the police, courts and insurance companies if asked for it! I am having that "big brother" BS box disabled as well!

This was long winded, but maybe someone can find it useful if they are going to build on or modify a newer vehicle!!

I leave in two weeks to take it to my guy's in SoCal for the beginning of the "re-birth"

I'll tell you something Mike, a new engine in your 2000 Taco is a great idea! hahaha! I'm not sure if I had an older model I wouldn't just do that instead! Makes me wonder!

911 S4!!!! hmmmmmmmm.......it's not too late to trade! I think I would go for an Infinity FX50S

As for initial impressions it does have more horsepower but the effect was not as dramatic as I hoped for! The torque is what I wanted anyway and that is increased! I must say I think something is installed wrong as when you hit the gas now it makes an aweful buzzing noise that sounds as if it is under the center console! I'm headed back on wednesday to see if it is normal! Other than that I think it is worth staying with the factory supercharger with the full warrantee as opposed to say a Whipple which may be more efficient with more dramatic effects, but will also void the whole warrantee!

The Cat-back exhaust is nice sounding without being annoying or too loud!

I won't know if was worth the $5000 until I mod up the rest and see how it performs!

They claim it now produces 304hp @ 5400rpm and 334lb-ft of torque at 3600rpm! Stock they claim 236hp @ 5200rpm and 266lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm! Not insignificant! I believe the torque figures as that is where I noticed the real difference! They claim a 68lb-ft increase at 400 rpm lower! That is pretty good! And I DID notice that! There is no question it has more low end grunt with a lot less rpm! As far as the HP goes it is different, but not as noticeable as I expected! It will be interesting to see how the motor feels with the 37-inch tires and reduction gear on the transfer case! It should be able to walk up hills pretty well!

Another word of note! Because it is a true cold air intake supercharger they said adding my snorkel should have absolutely ZERO effect on it's ability to produce HP! Even at slow crawl speeds! They claim their cold air intake "pulls" enough air even from a snorkel! I found that interesting! I checked this with the person who is currently fabricating the aftermarket "fix" for the install of the snorkel on these 2nd Gen Tacoma's (cruiser outfitters in Utah) and he agreed!

The final build sheet has been decided on now and I drive the Tacoma to SoCal at Christmas time to start the build process!  I will be there for some time and back and forth after that!  I will attach photos as things progress!  The basic plan is to do it in "phases" with the Drivetrain first followed by the exterior and custom fabrications with the interior and electronics being the final phase!  Then I plan on doing a San Diego to Yuma shake down run through the mountains and desert!  After any final adjustments it will come home to Idaho via the backcountry of Nevada and Idaho for it's first "overlanding" expedition!
