Well, My new Custom bumper is well under way. I have enlisted the craftsmanship of Doug the owner of Dirty Customs for the build. Its time to go shopping for a winch and lights to finish off the project.

1/4 inch for the winch tray and mounts. I am adding a brush guard with light tabs. I was even thinking of adding tabs for limbrisers in case I ever wanted to add them in the future.

The paint job was "Very Expensive" I think it was $4.99 a can. For now it is rattle caned flat black, but I hope to pull it off in the next few months and have it properly powder coated.

Looks good, Dan. Let's get that rig on the trails! When did you get it lifted? You should start a project thread or a blog so we can track your overall progress as you transform your rig.

I like the custom look Dan. May I ask what a custom bumper like that typically costs?

Jeremy, It was super reasonable I paid $750.00.. Give Doug a call at www.dirtycustoms.org

Dustin, I did the lift a few months back Mark Elfeing helped me out with it . I put a heavy duty OME kit in with 1" spacers from Columbia overland. At the same time I upgraded my brakes. This truck has been super fun. My next plan is to upgrade my electrical with dual batteries,on board air and roof top lights.

 Dan,

That is an exceptional front end assembly. What is going on the back? I mean to balance out the weight. ...or install a winch there maybe.  If you do anything that is as good looking you will be sporting a very nice vehicle...its great now, though. Looking good.

Morris, I am planning on doing a rear bumper in the future to match but it is a few projects down the line.

Very nice. What sort of winch did you end up going with?

I am really impressed with the look of this. Matches the lines of the Disco very well and looks very sturdy.

Thanks for all the feedback, I am very happy with how it turned out.

Jay, After much debate and truly for the simple fact I recieved the winch vertually free I went with a Smittybilt XRC10.

Burly! I'd skip powder coating and stick with paint. You WILL scratch it up, and with paint you can freshen it up each season. My personal feeling is powder coating is hugely overrated.

Yeah, paint with Por15. Two coats of Por15, then when the third coat is just a bit sticky, spray paint a coat of semi-gloss black -- you will thank me.

The bumper looks great. I think the winch tray hangs down a bit much, but whatever... The ends are just right, not too fat like the ARB's, not too anorexic like the extreme off-road stuff you see.

Good stuff!

Stop dropping tirds in the punch bowl...  If you want to be elite, do it on your own truck and don't bash others.  The guy who built this certainly has a lot f welding skill and if you do not trust them because they have not been tested to the Nth degree, letsomeone else pull him out.  They look pretty sturdy to me.

This is a fantastic bumper!

It is indeed a good looking bumper and it was fun seeing the pics of the process.

For someone like myself who is not so keen on the finer points of bumper design and the pros and cons of different welding techniques, Alex seems to have some legitimate questions that a bumper manufacturer should be able to easily answer. ,and that is how people like me can learn how to build and design my own bumper.  I for one, was actually hoping to learn something from his questions, so maybe another moderator or somebody with some knowledge can chime in with answers.

I don't see Alex's post as being elitist, bashing.
