Its a 1990 Jeep Cherokee 2dr. It has 5 inches of lift and 35" tires. I took her out today to make sure everything works and I can't wait for tahuya.

Well, be gentle on that drivetrain. Those boulders and tree root reek havoc on our little diffs :-)

Looks nice. Some days I miss my old XJ.  Best bang for the buck. The older two doors are the flexiest of them all, so you might want to start reinforcing it soon. If you have the Dana 35 you better get some spare half shafts...today.

I wish I could train my dog to spot for me.

Looks like it will be a fun trail truck.

If it has ABS it will most likely be the much maligned c-clip dana 35, if it doesn't have ABS theres a chance you could have a Dana 44.

1st one is a dana 35

35's are stretching the capabilities of a stock Dana 35...x2 on being gentle with it on the rocks with the skinny pedal.

Cody,

Here are a couple of links to keep handy.

XJ Axle Identification

XJ Stock Specs

Hope your XJ holds up as well as mine has.

What size tires are you running on your XJ Nathan?

31 x 10.50.  I feel like I can do most everything that I want to and can still keep it a daily driver (meaning trips, because my daily commute is about 1/8 mile).  I also like that I don't have to worry much about breaking stuff with this size tire.

You'll be fine. Just stay off the hardcore stuff. About finding a Dana 44....I think the most popular and easier to find is the ford 8.8 swap out of an exploder or ranger.

Well thanks guys....I knew that 35s where pushing those axels. And my plan is to downsize the tires anyway.

I think you can find Dana 44's that are a straight bolt on for XJ's. The later 29 spline Chrysler 8.25 is just as strong and also a straight bolt on. I agree with the other Nathan on 31's for an XJ being best for an "Overland" type build. People do go bigger and take them all over, but the chances of drivetrain or unibody failure increase exponentially. People forget that these cars were designed with 28" tires in mind. I'm finding it strange that I know this stuff.
