Issac,

the 235 are very close to what the Series used to have, as well as the Camel Trophy tires. Historically, Landys have definately been build for tall, skinney tires as opposed to car stomping, mud bogging, wide ones. That said it really does depend on your intent. Craig laid it all out pretty well. On the D1 I definately did not want a big wide tire, as I prefer to keep my CVs intact.

as everyone else has said, good call on moving to 16s.  i love my swampers.  they might as well be square on the road but off road, riding around on 10 psi...beautiful.

Andy,

What size swamper you got on your rig?  What kind of swamper, thornbirds , ssr's?

34" LTBs. in reality, they measure more like 285/75s. if the truck is a daily driver over long distances they can get old if you're not cool otherwise, i have no complaints. they're cheap, too. around $135 a tire.

mmmm, i have RTE's 2" kit and 1" spacers though i probably didn't need that much. it's rather narrow so it tuck in nicely. as for trimming, if you look at the pics in my gallery, you can see how much of the truck i've removed compared to stock. they won't fit on a stock truck, even with a lift, that's for sure. the front and rear bumpers would rub. i've also removed the flares-that might have netted me a bit more clearance.

before you get these i suggest you drive my truck or another rig with swampers. they aren't too loud per se but they are squirrely and a PITA to balance. there's a lot of rubber in those lugs.

for an inexpensive MT, try dunlops' mud rovers. i had them and they were great. the sidewall "seemed" thin, but the only time i really cut them up was on a sharp piece of metal from an exposed culvert. they were quiet and smooth riding.

I wonder if I could fit a 32.8 swamper on my 2" rte without cutting?

EDIT: it seems the ones I found are 32.8 x 13.50? That seems way too wide, what width are your Andy?

mine are the swamper LTBs. they make a bunch of versions. mine are listed as 34x10.50-16. i bet they'd fit with some clever trimming on a 2" RTE. i've been too lazy to pull the spacers-i bought them in tandem with the tires and never tried it with just the 2" lift. i'd bet some judicious trimming and bigger bumpstops would do it. you'll definately have to trim the bumpers and maybe lose some sheetmetal from under the flares (if you want to keep them).

Jason,

I would highly recommend you read Scott Brady's excellent piece on tire selection.  Its available on the Expeditions West site.  http://www.expeditionswest.com/research/white_papers/tire_selection_rev1.html

Its honestly one of the best pieces I've read from the stantpoint of summarizing a lot of data into a concise argument.  Of course, it helps that Scott shares an opinion that I've held for a long time.
