-new guy on the block here - I bought an '03 disco just before christmas.  Drove it for 1.5 weeks before getting into a front end collision (fortunately not my fault).  Now I've got the three Amigos and the insurance does not want to pay to fix it.  The dealiship in Portland said the problem is the ABS Modulator ($2300 to fix it).  Any suggestions of what I can do?

Is there any LR service shops on the west side?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Jason,

Definately find an independant. The most common reason to have the ABS modulator actually fail is the shuttle valve. There is a shuttle valve repair kit available for about $90 -- I think. If that doesn't work, get the ABS modulator used from Gundies.com (I think I paid $350) and have the new shuttle valve moved over to it and then installed.

Not sure who to take it to in Portland... I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Jason,

Green Oval Motors is a good resource for newer rigs.  Not westside, but near in eastside, and PDX isn't that big...

Call Columbia Rovers 503-349-3800 and talk to Brent.

Unless Scott is in town that day, Brent will send you to Green Oval...

also, check your sensors. i had issues with them until i noticed that the sensor leads were getting frayed on the tires. that has a lot to do with my driving and tires but you could check there, too.

I was assumimg that the dealer read the SLABS ECU codes and isolated the problem to the ABS modulator. Did they tell you what codes it was throwing? No need to check the sensors if that's not where the problem is.

The owner lives near me, does that help?

The guy I bought my truck from had all his service done there.  I haven't had to undo or redo any of the work, so I wouldn't shy away from sending you there.
