After being forced to redneck engineer a fix for my broken fuel pump last weekend, I got the replacement from AB today.  It's quite different from the OEM, with a plastic top and a different electrical connection that requires a patch harness, which is included.

Installation in my later RRC is quick and painless -- unscrew the access panel from the rear floor, unplug the wiring, disconnect the fuel hoses, unscrew the pump retaining ring and pop it out.  It goes back together just as quickly; I think it took me 15 minutes tops from opening the rear gate to plugging in the new wiring harness.

Before I put the access panel back in place, I wanted to start it up and check for leaks.  I wanted to, but I couldn't, because it wouldn't start.  Grrr...

I pulled the pump out again and used jumper wires from the battery to make sure it worked.  It did.  Then I checked to see if power was getting through the original wiring to the plug.  It was.  Then I looked at the patch harness.  Comparing wire colors, it was quickly evident that the wire colors on the patch harness did not match up to the original wiring.  As it turns out, the wires in the connector on one end of the patch harness were clocked one position off the original harness.

I tried to disassemble the connector, but no luck.  I really wanted the wires to match at the connector so future trouble shooting will not require remembering this problem, so I decided to cut the connector off the old pump and use it to replace the one on the patch harness.  A little soldering and some shrink tube and it was ready to go.

I sent a note to AB letting them know about the problem.
