Dang, this military 2.8l diesel setup has me all worked up.

A diesel JK along with an AEV integrated roof tent.  Yeah, I'd drop Land Rover in a heartbeat.

Off topic but "I'm at the point in life, almost 61, that if I really want to give dualsporting motorcycles a try, I had better get at it!"... My dad has been riding bikes for a long time and at 67 bought his first KLR. Him and 3 buddies went to Detroit to pick them up and rode backroads all the way back. Since he has been to Alaska and the tip of Baja all leaving from his home in Anacortes. He is 70 now. You still have time.

Wow, kudo's to him.  I grew up riding dual sports and still have my 82 Honda XL-500R, a few years ago I went out and got relicensed and insured, put on a few hundred miles and realized my abused 40+yr old body wasn't enjoying the ride quality of a dual sport as much.  I'd love to find a way to hang it on the back of the Xterra though for a few more adventures before I hang up my helmet but riding through the city to get to the adventure on a DS is just a nightmare anymore.

Traded in all my project vehicles for my 2009 Xterra, not an ounce of buyers remorse.

He has a rack that hangs off the back of his Honda Element. I am sure you could get it on your Xterra. I believe he got the rack from some guys in Kent. Dad has been a Goldwing guy for years and he hasn't touched his Goldwing for years, pretty much just rides the KLR. Then again my Dad is kind of twisted.

"Dualsports" definitely warrants its own thread, IMHO.

My brother in law has a few bikes.  His favorite is his Italian made GasGas 450 FSE dualsport.  Very minimalistic in the street legal department.  Only 260 lbs for a 450cc.

And its fuel injected.  He changed the mapping on the fuel injection.  When I got on the bike the other day, he hit the "Lo Beam" setting for the headlight to change to the fuel injection "factory setting" .  I went for a quick ride.  It was fast.  When I returned, he hit the "Hi Beam" setting for the headlight to change to his personal fuel injection settings, and in 2nd and 3rd gear, the front wheel was off the ground for long power wheelies. I was grinning ear to ear.  (It was then that I realized I was in shorts and Tevas with no helmet)

He also put a steering dampener on the handle bars.  Nice.  I asked him how much he wants for the bike, and he said no way, he has way too much time into mods to get rid of it.

I need one.
