This subject has been probably beat to death, but here might be an original qeustion.

I have been looking into tires as the first order of buisness on my new 2007 LR3 V8.  With out getting into which brand of tires (i.e. coopers vs GY silen Armors vs Nittos etc.), I am interested in sizing.  I am figureing 265/60/R18 (30.5 diameter) vs the OEM 255/60/R18.  I do like the idea of 265/65/R18 (31.5 diameter) for a taller narrower stance for snow, but can I still fit on snow chains?

Anyone, anyone?

Yes, you can find chains to fit larger tires.

Sorry should of been more clear.

Can I still fit the chains inside the wheel wells given the taller tires?

Thanks,

I wouldn't count on snow chains on an LR3 on anything but stock sized tires. I have the BFG's 265/65 18's on mine and there is pretty much no way to fit a chain on the front. In a pinch you could put them on the rear but anykind of articulation (ie. wheel stuffed) and you will be doing damage. Also if you have a 7 seven seater I wouldn't go over 31.5", this has nothing to do with the weight of 7 people but the rear ac/heater lines that run through the rear wheel well. (You should relocate them even with the 31.5 but you can get by without.

One more thing. Wider tires are definatly worse for chain fitment then height.

Recently put 265/65/18 Yokohama Geolander AT/s on my wife's truck, and I have to agree...there's no way to easily fit standard chains on the front if you are planning on stuffing the wheel/tire at all.

Ryan and Nikolas,

Did either of you research options to drop down to a 16" wheel on your LR3's? I need some new shoes for the LR3 and currently have the 19" wheels. For sure will not stay with those, but even in an 18" there are limited tire options in a near stock size. In addition, this LR3 will be spending some time in the sand and want to be able to air down a fair bit while out there.

Are the bolt patterns on the LR3 different then the DII....assuming so, but have not read up on it yet?

Thoughts?

I don't have an LR3 but a D2...... it didn't have much clearence either until I got rid of the 18" wheels it came with and got 16" Steel wheels with different back spacing to give the rig a wider stance and room for chains and larger tires.......
