It's my wife's birthday tomorrow.  She just now suggested to me -- wouldn't it be nice to wake up in the woods tomorrow morning?  That is, camp out in our van somewhere tonight.

So, I know this is very last-minute, but -- any ideas for places to do some backcountry vehicle camping close to Seattle?

I'm looking for no more than a good set of logging roads, but an official park could work if it's not too built-up.

I'm good at thinking about long-term trips, but have few ideas for close-by destinations.

Thanks for any last-minute ideas!

Go out towards Darrington and enter the Mtn loop from the Darrington side. There's lots of places to camp up there. Don't go through Granite Falls though... too many people on that side, and you won't hit the gravel portion of the road before you get to the spot where the road is closed.
