A buddy of a buddy shared with me a loop round the olympic mountains that is similar to the Olympic Mountains Loop GPS Tour.  Has anyone done the OM loop tour before?  I've translated the gps coordinates into a map and i'm now trying to see if others who have been before me have any insider info.  I've explored the east side down the hood cannel and the lower west side to the cost around Ocean Shore alot but west of Port Angeles and north of Pacific Beach is unknown to me.

I would love to give that a shot one of these days. I really want to check out the Hoh rain forest and maybe do some camping up that way.

I'm hoping this will be a fun three days...  I'm always amazed and how under utilized the Olympics are compared to the Cascades.  I'm going to wait for the sun to be a little more dependable...  after all it is a rainforest...  Now I'm looking for any instights from the group as I research camps and can't miss stuff.

I don't know much about the Olympic area, but would love to explore it.  I think Paul Wilhelm has some G2 on the area and hopefully will chime in.  Great guy but I think he has been pretty busy and have not seen him log in lately.

You might want to send him a PM as the notice will hit his email account.

The Olympics are fantastic, but from what I understand most of it is gravel forest service road. Not much twin track or 4x4 trails.

Tom did a trip report a while back where he drove/camped along the coast and then drove a few roads in the Olympics. There was a lot of interesting stuff in that trip report.

When we explored the SE corner of the Olympics we found a couple of roads that while not twin track, haven't been maintained in awhile. We did find one stretch of road that was very narrow ala Bolivian road of death style...

good input...  most of what I've mapped out based on the GPX data are old forest service roads...  Not a lot of challenge but sounds like a lot of succlusion.  I'm thinking of this as a three day solo run to clear out the cob webs in my head so this might be just right. The route I have does not go all the way up to Hole-In-The-Wall or Neah Bay.  Has anyone been up there?  is it worth a side trip... I'm guessing this would probably be black top mostly :(

Not to necro-post, but given my area of operation (Oly Penn),  I feel I'm obligated to warn that much of the area is privately owned, and while they don't care too much if people are just passing through, quite often one will find themselves behind a locked gate with no way around. So be prepared for that.

Don't get hung up on the verbiage. Get out there into your unknown.
