Alert | Hey guys, this is my first real post, other than my intro....here's what I'm looking at for Memorial Day weekend. We leave Bellingham on Wednesday afternoon, and we don't have to be at the Gorge until Friday at noon. Just thought I'd see if anyone had some suggestions for out of the way routes and nice camping spots. I'll have my camping-friendly girlfriend with me, a roof-top-tent on my Cherokee, and plenty of gear... any ideas? We're pretty positive we're going to take highway 20 over the pass, but I've never camped anywhere in that part of the state. I'd like to drop down South of Wenatchee and maybe drop into the Quilomene if at all possible, I've camped there before. Then head through Vantage and up to the Gorge. Just a quick google map (not actual route):

Alert | There's a road that doubles back up the mountains by Mazama. I'd camp up that way someplace. I camped up there once with another member, and I'm sure there are a lot of good spots if you poke around.
A fun route might be to go up Colockum Pass from Wenatchee and drop into the Quilomene once you are on the other side of the ridge, then follow the Quilomene roads until you are back to the Vantage highway. I can swing by the shop and show you on a map sometime.

Alert | I'd second what Craig suggests- Colockum Pass was sure pretty when the snow lifted on our trek over, esp on the north side of the "summit".

Alert | Craig, where exactly in Mazama is that road? That would be great if you had time to stop by and show me on a map - but if you have a some GPS coordinates that could work too. I think we will plan on taking Colockum Rd on the South side of Wenatchee and follow it through. Do you think the snow will gone by now? Thanks for the ideas...I know this is kind of last minute.

Alert | Some guys here ran the Colockum Road last weekend. Check out Grant's trip report by going to the "Blogs" menu, and he put up a few videos in the video library too. I'll get you some more info on the Mazama road either in person or digitally.

Alert | We might be in one of those sights near Mazama on Thursday night. Maybe you could hold one for us:) Take Lost River Road east from Mazama. After the pavement ends and you pass the Forest Service sign take the second or third left and try and find a spot by the river. There's also plenty of camping up the Chewuch north of Winthrop, and on the Twisp River west of Twisp.
I'm not sure Colockum will be snow free yet? You might ask Grant what he thinks. We camped in an awesome meadow just below the pass on the way to West Bar once.

Alert | Thanks Nate. I think we'll be back on the road by Thursday morning though, or else I would definitely save a spot, haha. Are you headed to the Q-mene that weekend?

Alert | "We might be in one of those sights near Mazama on Thursday night. Maybe you could hold one for us:) Take Lost River Road east from Mazama." Nate, do you know where you'll be Sunday or Monday night on the holiday weekend? I have Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off. Brian Rutherford | | http://www.pbase.com/railvan

Alert | | Not sure yet. I was thinking maybe Thursday and Friday night near Mazama then head for Colockum Pass and maybe the Quilomene on Saturday and maybe Sunday too. Chillin in Mazama the whole weekend sounds nice, but it might be relatively busy, and I need to test out the trailer more before our big trip. If Patrick gets stuck in the snow on Colockum Pass maybe I will see him there. What do have in mind, Brian?

Alert | Not sure but one option includes checking out some of the FS roads between Lake Wenatchee, Chelan, Methow Valley and Oroville. I have a route in mind on the map, but would like to see some of it in person. Not sure how much of it I'll cover in three days. Brian | | http://www.pbase.com/railvan

Alert | Jen and I want to get out, too. But, we seem to be dealing with a bout of "Where do you want to go?" "I don't know. Where do you want to go?" "I don't know." I want to go to Gallher Head Lk, but we can't leave until Friday after work and I'm sure it will be packed and all the lake sites will be taken. Or would still be snowed in? I'd like to see more of Mazama and Hart's pass, and it's not too far away. Hmm.

Alert | About to hit the road in few. Looks like it's going to be a wet night, good thing we've got the RTT. Going to try to find a good spot in Mazama for tonight, then cruise down past Wenatchee and find another spot for Thursday night outside of E-burg or Vantage. Not sure if we will try Colockum Pass or not, still kind of up in the air. Have a good weekend guys, maybe I'll run into some of you on the trails.
