It is a long shot but thought I would post this here since if somebody buys it I can spend some more money on the Rover. This is a super well built car that had a complete frame off restoration, mechanically as well as cosmetically. You can check out the ad here:

I am out in White Salmon WA just across from Hood River OR and you can e-mail me at spaeth@gorge.net

thanks

Craig, that's just plain cool. If I lived in Southern Cal instead of rainy Oregon, I'd snap it up in a second!

That is just awesome! I saw one all tricked out in army garb the other day.

Davis, why in Cali? The Thing is amphibious. Perfect for flood country.

I owned rebuilt baja bugs and old buses... I always thought a Thing would be a cool project... that car has been loved... good luck selling it.

That's certainly a nice vehicle, I hope it finds a home where it's appreciated.

Are they really amphibious?  I thought they just drained well.

It has a 1776 motor with Hydraulic lifters...

That was a revolutionary motor indeed. ;-)

The Things are not amphibious although the schimmwagens are true amphibs and a distant cousin to the Thing. The Things are very capable off road, especially for 2wd. It is just too nice of a vehicle to really beat up. I am really enjoying this Rover phase right now too. I actually have owned this car twice. I had it for about 4 years and then sold it and my 1960 Double Cab to buy my Syncro Double Cab. It was gone for about 4 years and we have had it back for about 2 years. I am hoping to find a good home for it but in this economic climate I don't know what to expect.

Craig,

Sweet VW! I meant to compliment you on the synchro too BTW. I had a chance to check it out at a PDX meet and greet a few weeks back. I have passed you on I84 a couple times on my way down to PDX since.
