From the pics on the coleman site it looks OK for light off-road...I wouldn't say take it down the Rubicon or hardcore trails. And it probably could stand to be lifted a little too. There is a pic on the Coleman site showing it towed behind an FJ and the rear step looks awefuly close to the ground. I ordered a brochure, I'll go check it out if they have one at the local coleman dealer.

Put some lift shackles or some leaf packs with more arch and a bigger tire and that things looks like it would go wherever the tow rig could go. Actually from the top pic it looks as though the axle is mounted atop the springs. A good old spring over lift for a cost of zero dollars might just get the right amount of ground clearance! Might have modify/remove that rear step as well.

That is a great looking trailer.

Bigger tyres will help a bit but it is good if the wheels can match the tow rig, makes for a great way to have two additional spares. Even better with tubes in them, easier to repair on the trail.

Yeah, the spring over is a great idea.  I have a spring over on the M416 but it just makes the trailer ride even with the pinz. The axle is still the same distance off the ground but the trailer is higher. It allows me to keep a spare wheel and tyre under the trailer for the pinz.

I would like to get wheels on the trailer that match the pinz but they are not like any other wheel. Lug centric, not hub centric and not off the shelf items at Wally's. Maybe I can get the hubs for the trailer to match the pinz and solve the issue some day. I see a machine shop in my future.

Just Got this today....
Dear Byron Benson:

First of all, we would like to thank you for contacting our dealership and your interest in Coleman Folding Trailers (AKA Fleetwood Folding Trailers). I'm sure in your research you have discovered that Coleman makes far and away the best quality and best selling folding trailer on the market. Our dealership has been selling Coleman folding trailers (i.e. tent trailers) for over thirty years, and has been operated by the same family for just as long. Our quality product, commitment to customer care, and low prices have made Apache Camping Center the largest folding trailer dealer in the country.

That being said, we are not yet able to provide you with pricing or availability for the Switchback™. It appears it is going to be built sometime around the end of April and then needs to be shipped out here. I have not yet heard if the boss has decided to order any. Please feel free to contact us at a later time to determine availability and/or pricing.

Sincerely,
Jeff Reisenauer, Internet Specialist
and the rest of your sales staff

SO I am guessing this will never come to fruition, which is sad. It would have been a great product.

Fleetwood to close plants in Pendleton, La Grande

by The Associated Press
Monday March 09, 2009, 12:59 PM

PENDLETON -- Fleetwood Travel Trailers of Oregon says it is getting out of the business and closing its plants in Pendleton and La Grande, which employ about 415 people.

The East Oregonian newspaper in Pendleton reports the business sent letters to dealers saying it will concentrate on motor homes.

The letter says Fleetwood, which is based in Riverside, Calif., lost $63.5 million in 2007 and $16.5 million in 2008.

The company says existing orders would be filled before the production lines close but that market conditions are too bad to allow a timely recovery.

Monaco Coach Corp., a Coburg RV manufacturer, recently dismissed 2,000 workers and filed for bankruptcy.

I like the top a lot but trailer itself is very light duty. Just like all of them. wooded framing with fiberglass siding on outside. Untreated OSB subfloor. Forget any fording. It's not built like a tub. The top/tent though would be nice to get a hold of and put on ex military 1/2 ton trailer.
