Alert | | Yes, go ARB. It is the best mod you could ever possibly do. Just wait until you have a party at your house and fill the thing up with beer. You will wonder how life was even possible before you had it. | | WZ7V

Just surfing around..what's the feeling about the Edgestar brand?...seem they all use the same type compressors.... | | Chuck Norris doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he has the Dos Equis guy serve it to him in a dress!

Alert | Benny,
Be sure and check out the Columbia Rovers NW Overland Society special on the new ARB fridge. No sales tax (Oregon), and a substantial discount. Brent posted additional info here. Give him a call too.

Alert | I like the style of the new ARB, but my Engel 45 is working great for me. From what I've read they are quite similar. | | My NWOS Blog

Alert | | There are a few fridges using the same reliable motor technology. Edgestar, ARB, Engle and another? I have the old ARB and it's been great. The new ARB model looks good, and Columbia Rovers is hard to beat.

Alert | I have one of those Coleman "cooler" things and it absolute crap when camping!. It uses so much power that if you don't pay attention it'll drain a battery in about 4-5 hours. Just to keep you soda cool...
The cheapest I've actually found for a true fridge is 439 for a edgestar brand. looks similar to all the big name brands and uses the same compressor that the engels use.
I will most likely use it for a back-up fridge or parties at the house. | | Chuck Norris doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he has the Dos Equis guy serve it to him in a dress!

Alert | | Another quick question.. How do they respond to say using them as a dedicated beer fridge for extended periods like more than 2 weeks. | | Chuck Norris doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he has the Dos Equis guy serve it to him in a dress!

Alert | | Benny, they work fine for that and a lot of folks have them continually on. It may actually be better for the unit to keep all the bits lubed up and moving. | | 93 LR Defender 110 05 Land Rover LR3

Benny,
FWIW: We have our 60L running full time at freezer temps. Outside. Under shelter, but still... It's fine and it was probably 8+ years old when we bought it used. | | "Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams

kipper snacks go great with red wine. just sayin'.
A (once?) Rover crowd should know that kippers are for breakfast. Red wine with Brekkie?

da%$ - so busted!!!!! ROTFLMAO! I saw salted herring the other day on the Upper West Side, just sittin' there in a big ol pine box! It was cheap, too! In all reality I have huge lust for an Engel fridge. It's just one of those luxuries that makes alot of ...sense? Cold beer in the desert or the woods is too lucrative to pass up. What's technology for, anyway?! I'd gladly run mall terrains for 2 more years to have an Engel. It fits with my no-lift no-mods ethos. Joe - if there's any wine left for breakfast, I probably wasn't there. Ask Peter what happened to his last box of tastay organic boxed red wine. I enjoyed it, immensely. Craig did too. What happened to those pics of him hiding in the buried pipe with Nevak? :-o thats what i'm talkin' about - *insert eddie murphy laugh* | | crashed '97 Discovery I - "Calypso"

Alert | Upper West Side? Oh yeah. So rub it in... And then go to Zabar's please. I'd like some Wilkins & Sons Orange Marmalade with Malt Whiskey (or the Apricot Armagnac if that's the best you can do), a 1/2 pound thick sliced Scottish Nova and some smoked Magret duck breasts. While you're at it, if you're on the East side around 86th & 2nd and wouldn't mind swinging by Schaller and Weber; I'd like a 1/3 lb of lachschinken, a 1/2 dozen landjaeger, some smoked pork chops and a quart 'o' kraut ... ;-P Seriously though, if you find yourself in the vicinity of E 76th an 2nd go to Sables. The owner worked for Zabar's for years and years before opening his own shop. Smoked fish every bit as good as (I'd argue better than) Zabar's. | | "Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams

Alert | Well plans sort of fell through. My initial proposal did not pass the household finance supervisor's approval. So I was left with significantly less than I'd hoped to spend. After many web searches and reviews, I decided to go with the Edgestar fp430, Same internals as some of the "popular" brands, Uses the Same Dannfoss compressor, Etc. Has a decent warranty and the price was right. $439.00 with free shipping http://www.compactappliance.com/FP430-Compact-EdgeStar-Portable-Refrigerator-Freezer/FP430,default,pd.html |
