I'm not sure how many people like to listen to music while in camp but my friends I are always trying to catch U of O or Blazer games while on the road and we have come to rely on Sirius radio. I made an investment in the newest Sirius X2 Boombox a month ago and thought I would let people know how its working out.

Cost: $100 (unfortunately from Best Buy but you can get it online through Amazon or directly from Sirius)

Power: 8 D batteries or wall outlet.

Compatibility: Most newer sirius radios and any music device with a mini jack (headphone jack)

My first weekend with the radio was out at a friends property on the east side of Mt. Hood using batteries for power and running both a sirius radio and my Sony mp3 player. Since then its been in my office and I use it every day to listen to the Grateful Dead channel on Sirius as well as my daily stream of the Jim Rome show.

I couldn't be more happy with this radio so far. heres a list of the pros and cons:

Pros

- Very good battery life. It ran for over 8 hours on 8 D batteries using the docked sirius radio (supplies power to the radio as well). Using an mp3 player it lasts for a lot longer. Previous radios I have used have eaten up batteries at twice this rate.

- Good Sound for a $100 audio device. It even includes a dedicated sub for those times when you have to hear Easy-E.

- Volume knob has a light indicating battery strength

- Antenna is water proof and comes with 15-20' of cord that can be wrapped around the back of the boombox

- Good Sirius reception

- Can be used with a Sirius remote

Cons

- Sirius radio sound is notoriusly thin because of the compression required to send from the satellite

- I've read reviews that complained about reception with the provided antenna. You can buy the sturdier and somewhat permanent Sirius home antenna if you need better reception.

Overall a great product so far. I would recommend it to anyone. And now that Sirius bought XM and isn't going bankrupt you have can tack on MLB and more college sports to the mix. Antenna

8 D batteries x 1.5v = 12v  That's kinda handy.  Does it have an external power cord?

The great thing about any of these recievers is that if you have RCA or 1/8" plugs on your head unit in the vehicle, they can be plugged right in.

My dad has one and spends a lot of time on the road, then transfers it to the hardware store system when he is at work so the business has commercial free programming.

Thanks for the writeup,
Nathan

I used to have one of the XM boomboxes. Biggest complaint was that you had to have a separate controller for it, both of my car's have XM and while I'd love to get a boombox I'd hate to pay another $8 or whateve a month to listen to it.
