I love my dog, but have no clue what I'd do if he had medical needs. Any suggestions on where to start learning, what supplies might be appropriate, etc?

As stated above what goes in your first aid kit can be used for a dog. Meds such as benadryl should be given carefully by weight. Epi pens would be a pediatric pen. Not for entertainment use.
I know he was kidding, After I wrote it I realized it came across as serious.
He may be some kind of animal, but definitely not an abuser!
Just to add. Ibuprofen should not be given to dogs or cats.
