LOL @ that Craigs List ad. Good luck to them.
Thanks for the laugh Grant.

I've also had really great luck with Coleman stoves. I have dual-fuel models in both 2 and 3 burners that are in the 10 year old range, as well as a 20yo 2 burner propane (my dad wouldn't give his up so I had to buy new). I like that fact that I can get replacement parts for all of them, but I've not yet needed to replace anything on these. I've also got a Colemen 502 single from the '60s (thanx, Grandpa) that still works great, and all I've ever replaced on it was the filler cap. I did that about a year ago and was amazed that most of it's parts are still available at coleman.com

Carl,

Try taking 'em out to the Red Lobster for dinner, say you forgot something in the car. Then dash back to their place before they figure out what you're doing. And steal the little bugger!

No, I know you can't do that.  You just too nice!

I was recently on a geocache/ jeep trip in central oregon and got to see this stove in action. it was quite amazing and can use any fuel, we used 4 briquets, lots of heat, and folds to nothing.....

Sorry Craig, never got back to your question.  It was many of the older white gas only stoves, dual burner types.  messy to fuel up, leaher gasket on the hand pump wears out after a couple years of heavy use.  Very hard to clean up well.  But it worked!

This experience was from when we used them in the field for 6-9 months a year, day in and out,3 or more times a day.  Not your typical family campout use.  Would have much preferred my present Camp Chef propane stove.  The Camp Chef will work off the little propane canisters, but I have never done that.  Always used my 2-1/2 gal propane tank instead.

I have been running a Primus Techno trail stove for about 4 years now, not one single issue whatsoever... which almost bums me out since I like to bring in new gear every few years!  This thing has not been serviced, yet it seals great, the ignitor fires everytime & it boils a quart in a minute flat!

It tucks nicely into our MSR cookset along with a can of gas & coffee, cream & sugar.  In what is the size of a grapefruit we have coffee within reach at all times!  Can't rave highly enough about the Primus gear, MSR for that matter as well.

We also run a coleman single on a wide base for our longer trips, which helps when wooping up big breakfasts.

My dad has an old hardware store in a very small town here in Idaho. I was walking around and found a couple of Coleman campstoves. They are brand new in the box from 1981. Dad gave me one. Pretty cool to get something that old brand new!

Jason,  very cool find!  Be sure to check the gasket on the pump.  Pretty sure they were leather back then...Try either oiling it, or you may have to replace it all together because it is probably dried out.  Have fun camping with that stove! I used to feed 10 people at a time for months on end with two of those stoves. Not very efficient, but bulletproof.

For "cool factor" nothing beats the Optimus Svea, the original backpacking stove.  No pump or other moving parts.

Optimus Svea is venerable as venerable can be. It's been to every part of the known world. If they could figure out how to make it work in space it would probably be there too.

Though Optimus stoves have been around FOREVER! (leave it to the Swedes....) and they generally are a great product, I can't stress enough, do not consider the Optimus Hiker. The reviews were "iffy" when I bought it, but it looked just too cool.

I tried the stove several times at home prior to taking it into the field. It failed the first time I used it in the field after a very, very hard day Mule Deer hunting in eastern Montana in -20 deg weather. I was mildly hypothermic, very hungry and very thirsty after packing a deer back to camp. All I needed was some hot food and hot drink.

The Stove is garbage folks....

Dale, thanks. I will check it out and keep an eye on it. I noticed Coleman still sells mosts parts for their stuff. Way cool!

I've owned my share of coleman stoves... the last one was a three burner dual-fuel converted to tri-fuel with a propane adapter.  IIt worked ok.  but left us lacking when I wanted to do some crab-boils out on the coast.  We made a switch to Camp Chef.  Our stove of choice is three burner Expedition.  This thing rocks!  It is never going to be taken backpacking but than again backpacking is not my thing.

We have had 3 large pots boiling in no time on it,,,, and have even used it for canning!

Over the years, we've slowly started getting more things from Camp Chef and have no complaints about anything we've bought from them.

Craig, well said.  I've had mine for over 35 years.  I'm not the lean, backpacking machine I was back then so I don't use it much.  It still boils water in nothing flat.
