if there aren't enough reports and good reasons to go up there, here is one more... I went up to Gallaher Head Lake with the Back Road Drivers and had a good time. I put the trip report and some pictures on the blog

Adventure Road Trip Blog

It is a easy 4x4 trail run for anyone looking to get out and see some beautiful views. It is over by Cle Elum, WA. if you want to give it a try.

I think I was there a few days before you were. I'd have done the trip with the group but I had my Dad coming to visit. I'd been wanting do the Fortune Creek trail for a while. My Dad (75) wanted to go camping and fishing so we went into Gallaher Head Lake, among other places, and really had a ball. We were both amazed just how beautiful a spot it was. It's an easy place to recomend to folks. I ran the whole trail into the lake in my van with a canoe on top, so it's obviously not some tiny Jeep trail.

I'm going back in this weekend with some other Sportsmobilers. I'm just hoping we get the good camping spot on the south end of the lake.

[EDIT] Well, I should have said it's skinny in places. Just not so skinny I couldn't fit. And I did scrape my rear bumper in a dip/washout. It's still a good trail to recomend to folk who aren't driving a boat.

Peter: Awesome Sportsmobile! I have tried a few times to snoose up a meaty hawg (catch a decent sized fish, any sized fish really) at Gallaher Head with no luck, did your father and you have any luck?

No. There are fish in there, but not the kind my Dad was after. He did catch a small trout, and was amazed to do it. I think the lake was about 3 feet deep, at most, while we were there. I just wish I'd have gotten a picture of him out in the canoe with the mountains in the background, with a nice orange glow to everything from the sunset. I was too busy setting up camp.
