Went for a run up into the snow and had a great time.  Explored a couple of forest roads and spent some time by a frozen lake...  Enjoy the video, pictures and story.

Great video.  What do you use for a camera mount?

Looks like a fun way to spend an afternoon. Too bad you couldn't make it to the top. Did you air down?

I love that road. With snow, that drop off can give you the willies! Without snow it's not a technical drive, but it sure is beautiful up at the top; especially in spring when the wildflowers are out. I haven't been up there in a while, but there are some photos of the road in spring in one of the older galleries.

Other good drives/hikes in the area are: Artist Point, Heliotrope Ridge, and Excelsior Pass. The last one isn't much of a drive, but is a great hike.

Here is a link to a write up on the Bullet Cam set up...  The cool part is I can attach the bullet cam to a 3x5 sheet magnet which lets me put it anywhere on the rig.  Still experimenting with different locations.  Can't wait to try some water crossings with a water level view.

I did air down...  the snow had thawed and refrozen a couple of times so it was thick and fluffy on top with ice under.   You're right that road is normally a pretty easy road and Twin Lakes is a great place.  Try the hike up to the Fire Look Out (2 miles).  The 360 view is incredible and you can stay in the look out (shared with anyone who shows up).  Thx for recommending the other trails.

Those switchbacks would be really hairy with ice. I've been there a couple of times when the snow line started just below the lake so it was still sane to drive all the way.

Yeah, I was thinking that too.  The switch backs are at a steep incline.  The snow llooks fun though.

Great vid.  It made me call Brian about getting out soon.

Is Brian back?

And front too...

Got home Saturday. Went to bed at 6pm due to 5 zone time change difference. Didn't do much Sunday, just groggy from almost two days "traveling", as in, sitting in little seats on planes and hard seats in airports. Had to work "Ladies Night" at Hardware Sales last night, but it helped me get back to this time zone, since I couldn't go to bed early. Chile and Argentina were great. I am in the midst of (seriously) editing and resizing 1,680 photos...... Yeah, digital photography is great. The photos are "free", but the "processing" can really kill ya...  I hope to have photos posted in a day or two.  And for you truck geeks, I shot lots of photos of cool rigs you can't buy in the US.
