I'm happy to report that they have opened Carbon River road up to the old Ranger station entrance, I think the sign said 7.7miles. That's much better than earlier this year when my buddy and I ran down there only to find it completely closed all the way back to the Evan's Creek / Mowich lake turn off.

What's even better is that the bridge just before the end of the road is once again open which leads to FSR7810 and hopefully to some more open FSRs.  I went up 7810 until I hit snow resting on mud and decided that was far enough for a sunday evening drive.  That was around the 3,000ft line so there were some beautiful vistas and quite a few waterfalls right next to the road.  One is actually draining right down the middle of the road, hopefully they get the culvert fixed/unclogged before it permanently damages the road.

There were quite a few people camping already but the roads weren't too busy when I was there.

Before finding the Carbon River road open I tried checking out an area that looked very interesting on the map outside of Orting at the end of Patterson rd E.  However instead of finding the usual locked gate I found these signs (see pics).  Apparently a private company sells access passes for between $100 - $300 per season!  I called and listened to the recorded message but has anyone here paid for access like this before?

This was one of the more impressive waterfalls next to the road:

I'm including my gps track so you can see how far and where I was able to go up 7810 and where the signs for the permit area were located (the dead end line to the SE of Orting).  One file is a Google Earth compatible .kml file and the other is the smaller gps log output by Delorme topo7.

Delorme Topo7 gpx output (825kb) http://media.serveftp.org/carbon2.gpx

FYI... You can attach both kml and gpx files to a post in any forum on NWOS. There's no need to use an external file server, and I'd actually discourage it since the links will break when the files are removed.

When I tried to post it the first time the upload error'd out because of the first attachments file size > 4mb so the entire message failed to post.

I thought about uploading them to the library but then couldn't quite figure out how to link back to them in my reply, plus you mentioned you weren't keen on having kml's in the library but preferred gpx's, which is fine by me.

Time was running out so I just said screw it and dropped them on a local server under my control so I could finish the post.
I'll work at learning where to upload files and link to them in here.  Any tips on how to link back to library files in a post?

Dang... what's in a KML file that makes it 5x as big as a GPX file for the same track?

I fixed one max file size limitation last night. A few values were reset when I upgraded the website. I might have one more setting to tweak for the GPX/KML files to work though.
