My next adventure is coming up Nevada Trophy 2010 Loved it last year NVTR2009 report. Got to come back with.... well lets just finish in one piece.

Of course after spending this much cache for device I've started searching around for ways to save money on maps. I already have 24k for PNW but no Garmin compatible Nevada coverage. Found good source www.gpsfiledepot.com/

Also apparently Oregon series allows to build you own custom raster maps based on georeferenced imagery (scanned maps, aerial  photographs etc) gpstracklog.com/tag/garmin-custom-maps cool stuff I'm digging it right now.

couple good sources for raster maps. USGS quadrangles and alike.

USGS map locator   download is free but some maps are pretty old.

USFS maps    Doesn't cover all the regions (mostly National Forests and alike) but have more up to day info.

There are actually many more like seamless.usgs.gov/website/seamless/viewer.htm but that's a good start.

PS. If anyone is interested registration is still open for NVTR2010

Nice GPS. How big is the screen diagonally?

I'd love to do the Nevada Trophy. It's everything I enjoy all rolled up into one.

It's 3" 240 x 400. Def not ideal for large scale awareness but can do and I definitely needed something handheld. 3 axis compass is very nice too. Shows heading/bearing dead on in the field regardless how one holds GPS. Very responsive.

Of course screen is not quite as nice looking in direct sun light but works.

Yep, they are sweet units. I have a Garmin 60CSx that I use for hiking. I like that you can put your own maps in to these though.
