I thought ASUS just made motherboards! Maybe you'll find this interesting too.

Coming in March.

Intel 900Mhz and up to 60G hd, camera, SiRF III GPS, Bluetooth, 7" TFT, etc.

No I don't work for, or hold stock in, ASUS. I'm a civil engineering designer so I get "geo-community" e-mails.I wouldn't mind messing around with this gizmo though. Maybe hooking it up to a handheld dual band radio.

93 SWB RRC (trail rig)
93 LWB RRC + 81 Series III 109 = (hybrid to be)
74 Series III 88 (test lab, knuckle buster, weekend go fer truck)

Paul,

We have something in common. I am also a geo geek (http://www.spatialminds.com). I was checking that ASUS model out too. Unfortunately, I don't think there is any APRS software to accompany their nav software. If the price is right, I'll port my touchscreen NAV software to that device and add APRS support to it. Did you catch a price for it?

Price? changing by the minute but I saw it as low as $855 then it was $864. It seems like $999 is the retail. But hey, for the most capable doodad at 12:30pm today...

I'm surprized by the burgeoning UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) market.

I'm looking for a ruggedized UMPC to bundle with my Nav software. I've been following it for a while now, but nobody has made a ruggedized unit for less than $1000 (UMPC = Windows XP to me)

Ruggedized? the Switchback http://www.switchbackpc.com/index.aspx looks tough. Runs multiple OS's

Hey, I'm just a geo geek wanna be. You, on the other hand, are the real deal. ;-)

That's a pretty nice piece of hardware. I'm skeptical that it will retail for under 1k though. I've got my fingers crossed for sub 1.5k.

I inquired about being a retailer. The switchback is going to retail in the $4-5k range. That's even high for the military, police, emergency services domains.
