This product ain't perfect, but it seems to work ok
topofusion.com

I made a track and photo linked thingy of our property and the road around it
http://thecareyadventures.com/gpstest/index.html

While it worked fine, there is a lot of room for improvement, such as the area where maps come together and sometimes the zoom in gets fubar and you have to reset stuff. And that's why you'll see the DEMO over the ariel pictures.

It does do a good job of the different track height and stuff and lets you play it back really well.

I've gotta run up to Oak Harbor and will give it a try there too.

That's pretty cool. I have a fondness for these types of applications.

In 2005 when I was at Autodesk, I made an application called "PhotoMark" that was very similar but targetted at camera phones on an LBS enabled network.

Microsoft Research has an interesting product too, although it isn't as targetted to GPS users as topofusion is. http://wwmx.org/WebClient.aspx The downloadable version is much better than their web version.

I remember using that! Can't remember exactly when, but it was a bit clunky at the time. Thanks for the reminder, I might take a second look.

Topofusion is still too buggy for me to plop down the money, although it's tempting. the split maps (Vantage is right at the border of two maps as is some of our route) are still an issue for me.

one day the perfect app will appear....

Along the same lines, I found this CD ROM collection for hiking the Pacfic Crest Trail. Looks like a handy resource. not that I have time to hike it now....

And I'll develop it. When I get to that point, I'd love to get your input.
