Alert | So... Anyone get anything done on their truck this week? I'm selling mine, so I've just been maintaining it and fixing those nagging little things that I never got around to fixing before. Anyone have anything more interesting? Anyone planning any fun projects for the winter? | | My Overland Adventure Blog

Alert | Work on the truck?...well..Craig, your old rack has been sandblasted and will be picked up tomorrow. Going to bring it home and spray paint it black. Decided not to re-powder coat it because I can touch it up easily and quickly with a can of spray paint. I'm also planning on modifying part of it by removing a rear portion of an upper rail so that my rooftop tent will sit down in the rack. It will then deploy out the side as opposed to the front or back. The rail will go back on when the tent's not being used. l Then on Thursday I head over to Scott and OTG for a new ARB winch bumper and a Pierce 10,000 winch, after which no tree on my property will be safe. There's going to be a new cowboy in town.. | | "Some people say I have a problem because I drink hydraulic brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want."

Alert | like ike, i didn't do much to my truck besides add a few scratches and remove a turnsignal. i did replace the master cylinder on my friend amy's truck. we also picked up her new sami. it's pretty sweet. it needs some work to get fully driveable but it gets better gas mileage than my disco.

Alert | Mike,
How are you going to attach/detach the rail? I was looking at using 1" marine railing connectors for a while. Is that what you are going to use?
I think you have the right idea in going with a rattle can. It is much easier to touch up than powder.
Look forward to seeing how it turns out.

a fess up, Andy - you removed the headlamp, too ;-D that Sami of Amy's is pure burl - with a little more seat time she'll be unstoppable in that thing. | | I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the noise of how awesome I am.

Does your bumper completely enclose the winch?
It will when the hatch has a "bump" added to it to cover the winch. Other than the rope out the front it is not visable.

Craig Well so much for me thinking that I had come up with a truly original concept. Yep, that's it, marine rail connnectors. I think I can work it out so that I lose little strength and not impact the looks to much. (Although my taste runs to function before form) The only thing I'm somewhat uncertain of is deploying the tent sideways off the top as opposed to the front or back. It would seem that it would work just fine as long as your port and starboard are level. My other desire is to arrange a swingout awning with sides that would cover that back are and allow access during a storm. It would probably not be too hard to rig something up with just tarps and rope and stakes, but I decided that I'd wait until I could arrange something that can be deployed quickly with little drama and does'nt use stakes or rope. At the moment, the ARB swing out bars look pretty good, but I want to make my own. mike | | "Some people say I have a problem because I drink hydraulic brake fluid. Alert | I am deploying my tent out the side now that it is mounted on Thule bars (since I sold you my rack). I just use the $10 lev-o-gauge and stick a rock under a tire if necessary to level it out.

Alert | Sounds like a good place to post my moving horror story.
So, we find that because our buyers dinked around on their loan stuff, we weren't going to close until tuesday instead of the agreed upon monday.
Last friday, the people we were buying from said, that's fine we'll still give you keys on monday so you can move in.
Sunday comes, we get a 17' truck and a 24' truck, and load all of our stuff out of our townhouse and put the trucks outside the new house.
Monday, we go to the town house get the last few small items loaded in my Taco, and pick up the cat.
On the way to the new house, cat freaks out about being in a small box in a car and pees, covering himself in urine, and we talk to our agent finding out that our sellers changed their mind. (insert multiple expletives here)
We have multiple talks with people, and our sellers agree to hand over keys as soon as our buyers sign, instead of waiting till loan funding on tuesday.
Pass this information on to the parties that need to know, and come to find out, our buyers are not willing to take time off from work to sign since the loan wouldn't fund any earlier, and they aren't in a hurry since they have an apt they've paid rent on until the end of the month. Nevermind the fact we have nothing available to us because it's packed.
So we went and got cat food, litter, litter box (since this was all packed) and dropped the urine soaked cat back at the town house, and went to Breanne's grandparents house to consumer rum and deal with the fact that we were going to have to pay for an extra day of truck rental, and i would have to take an extra day off of work to unload the trucks instead of having them unloaded, and breanne taking the extra day off to unpack.
So Tuesday rolls around, we're told we'll get keys from 9:30-10. Show up at the house at 9:15 to wait, while we're there Comcast tech and Lowes delivery show up for our appointments we had made, they hang out until we get the keys at 10:15 and then do their thing.
So now it's just Breanne and I unloading the trucks by ourselves until about 5:30 when Nik and other help get off work and can come help.
We get done by about 7, eat some pizza, then go drop of the trucks, and pick up the cat to finally get home at 9:30.
Unpack a little for the things we need, shower etc.
Get up this morning, Breanne still can't find work appropriate clothes, head out the door finally, only to find that even though my commute distance is cut in half, the commute time has doubled. So I'll have to find some new ways to get here.
There's a bunch of other stuff in there, but that's a pretty sumarized version. I feel like dying. | | Roger Carr www.pstoc.org 05 Tacoma Dbl Cab

Alert | I went through this a couple of years ago Roger, I can sympathize.
Moving is hell when it goes right, and ours went wrong at every turn. It was like Murphy was in charge.
It was a hell that I'm in no hurry to relive. The rum helps. so does beating something with a big stick. I hope the new house makes it all seem worth it, I know ours did. Alert | Moving is a pain. When we did a cross town move in Chicago, it was complete hell. Not as bad as yours, but still a pain. It is virtually impossible to sell one house, buy another and close on both in the same day and move across town and have things go right.
When we decided to move here, I was absolutely horrified at the prospect of moving again. Moving here couldn't have been any easier. We loaded up our personal belongings in a Uhaul trailer and drove here. I flew back to Chicago and stayed at the house for a few days while the movers packed up the house. Then we bought the house here and scheduled the rest of our stuff to show up. It all went down without a snag. | | WZ7V
