Man, that just brought back memories of our move from PA (and that only happened 3 weeks ago).

One of our biggest challenges was the pack and my 2-year old daughter coming right behind us and unpacking every box we just packed :)  Cat pee probably would be easier to deal with.

I finally got around to pulling the oil pan and cleaning it out. I was really dreading what I might find in there. There was just a very thin film of sludge on the bottom of the pan & the oil pickup was perfect. I've been using Mobil One every 5k since I bought the truck, and have run seafoam through the crankcase a few times.

I've been chasing a clunk in the front end for a while. I think that it wasn't a clunk, but about 3 little clunks all happening at the same time creating a big clunk. My panhard rod bushings were replaced. That made it a little better. I reset my hub bearing preload and that made it much better, but there is still a little clunk now when accelerating from a complete stop. I grabbed the tie rod ends and checked to see if there was any wobble. Yep. One of the ends is worn out. Hopefully, when I swap it out I'll be clunk free.

Mike,

Check your engine mounts. I had a very similar situation and that's what fixed it.

Dan, the motor mounts and transfer case mounts are about a year old and still look good. I just checked them yesterday. :) I think every piece of rubber on the Disco has been changed in the last few years. That trip I took to Moab in 05 put the final nail in the coffin for every bushing and motor mount.

I really think the remaining clunk is from the tie rod end. The sound seems to come from the left wheel area, which is where the bad tie rod end is. Its a somewhat cheap fix and they probably need to be done anyways since the rubber boot is slightly torn (which is probably how the joint wore out).

As far as things done on the truck go, I got to watch Scott install a new ARB bumper and Peirce 10k winch on my D2 this last Wednesday after which we drove back down the gorge to portland in a real bitch of a rain storm. I enjoy watching other people work and in fact I've gotten rather good at it.

Kidding aside, it really was a treat watching Scott do this install. Like John Steinbeck said in Travels with Charley, "you just can't beat the right guy in the right place at the right time."

So now I've got a winch and bumper, a roof rack and roof tent and so what's the next thing I can throw money at? Since I've got enough to get up into the woods with now, I imagine I need to start thinking about how to find my way...GPS etc. Another learning curve coming up...

Mike,
Did you buy a basic recovery kit to go with the winch? Gloves, tree strap, chain for rocks, snatch block, and at least 3 D shackles would be what I would consider essentials. :) You might also consider watching Bill Burke's "Getting Unstuck".

Yes I have a kit with all of those items, lacking only the third D shackle. I also have a hi lift jack and I'm going to buy the strap with hooks thing from EE so that I can raise a wheel if necessary.

As for Bill Burke's video, thanks for reminding me. I had that on my list but somehow keep passing it up.

Scott has been driving it this week making sure nothing gets funky. So far so good. Couple little things like glow plug relays that should be done now. I have my train ticket to pick it up friday. Gonna be hard to drive while engorged...

Well, first weekend in ages that I was at home and not putting on or setting up for an event. So even though the date of the topic is two weeks ago, I just had to post. I didn't spend much time indoors this weekend...

-Changed rear diff oil in Disco
-Pulled out fuel pump and knocked out big indent in bottom of Fuel tank in Disco - but fuel pump still intermittent
-drained overfilled oil from lube shop from Series truck so it stops stinking when I drive it
-topped up all levels
-went down to Kelowna to see Ryan and his dad off to the Baja 1000 with their 110s
-rebuilt left wiper motor on series truck
-got up on shop roof and renailed the sheet-metal roofing that had loosened up since it was built
-did the same to horse barn
-finished building 2 walls on lean-to horse stable
-back to rovers for awhile... installed winter fume curtain in series truck to keep it warm
-installed nuts on window frames for the winter
-topped up antifreeze in all 4 rovers
-fiddled with carb on 80" but didn't have time to rebuild it
-cut the lawn, mostly to vacuum up the leaves
-took mower off of lawn tractor and cleaned it and stored for the winter
-washed lawn tractor
-changed oil and filter in lawn tractor
-change air and fuel filters
-installed snow plow blade on lawn tractor
-installed chains on lawn tractor
-loaded up about 200 lbs of weights on the back of it
-took all the old fluids and oils that have been collecting around the shop to the recycling place
-tested all glow plugs and replace two that weren't glowing
-finally, wired an adapter to the split signal and brakelights on the series truck and wired a new 7 pin trailer plug, but didn't get that hooked until tonight

Time for a cold beer...

Managed to get a few nagging items fixed this week.

- Cup holder back on
- Rebuilt the tent after running it into my carport (blush) -- Thanks for all the parts Todd!
- Mounted the tent directly onto the Thule bar to lower it another couple of inches.
- Fixed leaking sunroof -- Thanks to Jeff for the info on how to do it! This ones been bugging me ever since I sold the roofrack with the flooring.
- Lots a goodness w/ Overland Navigator that isn't ready for public consumption yet. :)
