Due to a variety of additional battery connections since my original dual battery install my battery setup has become rather cluttered.  I decided that it was time to clean it up and to install the winch/jumper quick connect plugs that Brian sold me.  Yesterday I went and checked out various battery clamps at my local stereo shops and found these battery clamps that I think are perfect.

The Streetwise battery clamps have one hole for an 8 gauge wire, and 2 screws for attaching their wire terminals.  Each screw can hold two (or more) terminals of any gauge wire for a total of 5 wires connected to any single battery post.  More than two per screw can be added by  putting  the terminals on at right angles to each other.  The  store manager said he did one install with 4 terminals on one screw (9 total connections per terminal).  While I don't intended to put that many terminals on each screw, it does give me the assurance that I'll be able to hook up what I need without any trouble.  I also like that you can run cable in from any angle.  These are really flexible battery clamps.

Here is a snap of the negative clamp/terminal.  I'll update the thread as I do the rest of the terminals and wire in the winch quick disconnect.

Those are snazzy, and look versatile.  How much?  I bought two from Parts Express (you can see one here ), but they don't like being squeezed down to the smaller size of a negative terminal, so now I only have one...

Roughly $20 a post.

I converted two more terminals after work this afternoon. I really like them.

I have my old terminals if you are interested. Nothing wrong with them, they just weren't as versatile as I needed.

You've had that battery since Nov 04? That's pretty good for what I am hearing about Optimas these days.

I like the terminals.  Can you send a picture of the final install and where to get them?  Did you crimp your own ring terminals?

Yeah, I don't know what the problem is with Optimas these days. I bought mine from Pacific Power and Battery a battery only shop just down the road. They test them before they go out. I've run them in parallel since I bought them so they were never strained on amperage when starting. They've been used heavily during winching and run dead on one occasion. They are a deep cycle battery rather than a high amp battery like the red top. since they are in parallel I get the best of both worlds though. High amps and deep cycle battery. Still going strong

I'll definitely post up more pictures when I'm done. I forgot to buy 2 gauge terminals for the winch, and they only had one negative terminal in stock. I'll go back today during lunch and get the rest of the bits and finish wiring it up this evening (maybe).

The ring terminals are made by the same company, but the hole in them isn't big enough to fit the screw on top of their clamps. The guy at the shop just suggested that I drill them out like they do and that has worked well. I did crimp them myself with either my crimping tool or my vice for the really big boys. Slipped a little shrink tubing over them and it is coming out pretty clean.

They come with plastic covers which helps to prevent arcing, and shorting things out. The thing I like about them other than their utility is that they are mostly all business. No logos on either the terminals or the covers.

So, phase II. I replaced the battery clamps/terminals and rewired to clean things up.  Everything is running off the top posts now.

Future plans are:

- Distribution block near the firewall
- Quick disconnect for the winch / jump cables (Already have the connectors)
- Hellroaring isolator next time I replace my batteries.
