11/19/2006 11:49 PM Alert
Spent 5 hours on Saturday/Sunday replacing my front seat. I bought a used seat to replace my torn up drivers side seat that had one faulty motor, a bad armrest, and a burned out seat heater.

- Plan A was to just pull the existing seat and replace it with the new one.  Nice and easy.  30 minutes, 45 tops.  But....  DHL damaged the frame pretty bad in shipping.
- Plan B was to swap the legs off of my seat onto the new one.  One of the four bolts had a stripped head though.
- Plan C was to pull off the seat cushion and entire back and swap it onto my seat; also swap out the burned out motor in my seat.  After several hours of messing with it, the seat was back in the truck... seat heater in the new seat doesn't work either (which means I get to do the whole job over again and pull the seat covers off the cushions so I can fix the seat heater elements.

Oh well.

Andy,
A comment for when you go to install the D1 CDL linkage; if you haven't already done it, open the boot and stuff that's on the D1 shift linkage and pack that bad boy with a lot of good Marine grade grease or something. They like to freeze up from lack of use and from corrosion since they are exposed to mud/water/heat under the truck. You don't want to have to disassemble everything again later to clean and grease it.

rick-

thanks for the tip. luckily, i've done exactly what you've mentioned. when i looked at it i thought, "hey, this thing could use some grease." personally, i've always liked direct linkages rather than cable actuated devices; i'm surprised that people thing the D2 lever is so much better. sure is a big hunk of metal to do two small tasks though.
