I picked this up for $500 today. It runs good, except the clutch it tricky. I probably wouldn't have bought it except my 2 Disco's are without trannys. I'm in the process of swapping my automatic ZF 4hp22 for the stock 5 speed R380. Unfortunately the tranny for the second Disco finally gave out ( which I was expecting, just not now). So with no car to drive, we had few options.

Hopefully this turns out good. I know little about Internationals, but I have a friend who loves them, so cross my fingers it runs until the Rovers are done.

Internationals are awesome, what engine is in it? Also don't worry about working on it, they were built stout and simple. When you get into some parts of it, it will make you think a farmer built it in a shed...

That is a real classic.  I love the body lines on those things.

Very cool.  Those things were built like a rock.  Whenever I see one I think it would be neat to have one all restored...well, maybe a little lift here and there and taller tires, but that's about all they need.  I drove one on occasion back in the early 60's when some other kids and I were working for the National Bank of Commerce in Seattle.  Normally we drove leased Corvair vans on our nightly mission of collecting checks from the Seattle area branch offices and returned them to the main office for processing.  The Corvairs were leased from a company in Seattle and when they broke down they replaced them with a variety of other vehicles, including an International Traveall.  Unfortunately for us the Traveall had been previously leased to a diaper service (before disposables) and there was no way they could get the stink out of it.  Phew!

I'd say you got a heck of a deal, the rear glass is worth more than $500 alone.  Have fun!

Hey! My brother has posted something! It's a miracle. Can't wait until next weekend to see the new beast! Judging from the pics, looks like the body is in good shape. Looking forward to seeing it!

Matthew,

I used these while in geology field camp waaaay back in 1974.  The only weak spot I know of with them is their rear drive shafts.  They are long, skinny little muthers out there in the open.  If you boink one on a rock while off-roading, it will twist up into a piece of spaghetti quicker than you can snap your fingers.  Don't ask me how I know that .  But the trunk won't leave you deserted; just stick 'er in 4WD, unbolt the useless rear driveshaft, and voila!  A front wheel drive corn binder.

BTW, if that is your daughter there in the back seat she has a smile that could melt snow!

Yeah, I'm excited about getting it fixed up.
The slave cylinder for the clutch went out the other day, so I ordered both master and slave. Now its sits in the driveway awaiting parts.

I know it is a bit late tothe party, but I used to have a scout II, and I can atest to the fact that they were built stout! They are not fast, but they can pull and crawl like a tractor. that is one sweet rig! I would love to have one of those!

Unfortunately with the change in my bussiness, and therefore lack of cash I will be selling this lovely car. Any interested parties send me a pm.

Sorry to hear Matt.
I'd like to ask you to post it for sale in the classifieds with better pics though, I'm not much for pm'ing.
Thanks, Tom.

...and yea, I'm interested. Maybe a trade of some sorts for another Disco?
