Alert | HI Justin- Nice rig ! Have you thought about dropping the grill from an 03-04 into the front ? I know you would lose the white surround, but that rig has plenty of white and the all black would be nice contrast. I ask this because you would then be able to adjust that winch bumper up tighter to the bottom of your lights and sides and get rid of the gaps...just a thought. They seem to come up on ebay pretty often. Do you have a shot of the back bumper ? I like the side application of it and I am wondering what the rest of it looks like. Did the dog come with the rig ??

Alert | There are additional photos of that rear bumper in my photo gallery, and in many of the trips (it's my old truck).
Note that the headlights would also need to be replaced if the grille is replaced. | | My Overland Adventure Blog

Alert | Posted By Justin Hall on 06/26/2010 8:44 AM (Andy, Seems like it is your way or the highway ;) Comparing cars with "projector" hid conversions will always look better. That is why most OEM HID Headlights use them, better beam focus. It all depends on the glass (or plastic) lence you are using. All I stated is the beam battern is like the original beam pattern. I was not saying it would magically make it look like a projector system. I have had these kits in many of my vehicles including motorcycles and they all have had results that matched the factory beam patterns on all of them. This thread is to show things that I am doing to my project, NOT yours. If you have a problem with my mods please let me know through PM. This does not have anything to do with my shop, it is my own project. Like I mentioned above if some one was interested in something I have done, please contact me through PM. Happy Motoring! Justin, Andy is correct in that similar effect can be gained by simply installing a brighter bulb for a lot less money. Not trying to criticize your mod just adding to discussion. If comments amount your project offend you don't post. I have known Andy a long time and I am sure he is in no way trying to "spoil your fun". Part of what makes these threads nice is other ideas and disucssion about mods. So don't take offense. :) This is an easy going group :) Scott

Alert | Brighter bulbs do help out and are a lot less expensive. I chose the HIDs because they draw less power once warmed up, 35W of power use in either high or low mode. I plan on adding some more lighting to the Disco, just want to make the charging system work a little less. The LED headlights like used on some of the military vehicles would also be nice. I do like the 03-04 headlight and grill combo and have concidered doing that mod some day. At the moment I have a few other things that are higher up the list. Maybe next spring as I intend to pull the bumpers and sliders for a repaint. I have not decided if I will stick with the white or go black, but the white is growing on me. | | 1999 Disco II 1988 535IS www.streamline-audio.com

Alert | I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but the truck has an upgraded alternator. Stock is 130 amp, and the new one is a 150 amp alternator.

Alert | Justin, There was a discussion on the pinz website in reference to LR headlamps fitting into pinz headlamp frames, and they do. This brought u the discussion of LED lamps also fitting. There is a 7 inch LED lamp available through Trucklight (http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=64057&langId=-1). This lamp is a replacement for the stock pinz lamps and by way of a tradeoff they would fit LR frames as well. I think they may be a bit pricy but if money is no object, then why not? These come in 12v and 24v, so everybody can be accommodated.

Alert | Morris,
Justin has a Land Rover Discovery II. I think the lights you are talking about only fit the older Land Rover Series I/II/IIa/III and maybe a Defender. | | My Overland Adventure Blog

Alert | Craig, Yes, I keep forgetting that even LR's have the idea that 'New and Improved' is a good thing. Thanks.

Alert | Morris, That is a great link! I saw a Disco with the round 7" light conversion a while back and thought it could be a cool mod. So many ideas and so little time. Craig, Thanks for the bigger alternator, I did not know about that mod. I just moved and will have to push the rover in the corner for a week or so. Gotta get the house put together and find all my tools again. Hopefully I will find some time soon to get out on some trails. | | 1999 Disco II 1988 535IS www.streamline-audio.com

Alert | Dan Cronin did the 7" round HID light conversion on his old green Disco 1. Sold that truck to Britt Pinson, who sold it to someone else down in the PDX/Vancouver area. Anyway, Dan could probably give you the details if you were interested.

Alert | Just added another minor mod. British Atlantic plug-in trailer harness, works well and took about 5 minutes to install. Next the rover will be getting all tuned up and a few bugs worked out, I hope Happy trails to everyone. ps. I hope I did not seem to grumpy the other day, just had a rough day and should have gone to sleep instead. | | 1999 Disco II 1988 535IS www.streamline-audio.com

Alert | | That's coming along nicely! Very glad to see you got the rig back form Ship's and that it didn't go to the scrap heap out of frustration.

Alert | | I did get it back just a few days ago. Ship's has been very busy and didn't really have time to do anything to it yet. I needed to get it back so I can take it to MogFest and ABFM. We will be digging back into it pretty soon after those events. If all else fails, it might end up with a 300TDI swap instead of the scrap heap. :) | | 1999 Disco II 1988 535IS www.streamline-audio.com
