here is the manual for the yaesu VX-8. i looked through it and did not find anything about it being able to hook up to a computer for the APRS. maybe i missed something i dont know.

I spent about an hour looking at that manual and googling for info. As I understand it, the APRS functionality in that unit isn't designed to interface with an external GPS whether that be a Garmin GPS or Overland Navigator. Wish I had better news.

You can do APRS with it if you have the GPS module, but you won't be able to see peoples location on a map. Again, this is as I understand it. Some time in a forum w/ people who have been hacking the unit might yield better results.

thank you for looking. i had kinda figured that would be the case. i guess i will need to save up my money for a nice mobile rig that can push out to a computer to replace my current one. other than it not interfacing with a computer the vx-8 is a great ht.
