Hey all, just wanna say 'thanks for giving me the swift kick in the pants (Craig)'.  I finally took the test and passed for Tech, and am now gonna go radio shopping :)  The 'store' in Tigard has a 2m (only) for $109 (don't quote me), but I'm just wondering whats the most versitile frequency for a Technician,

Thanks, Tom.

2 meter is the most popular for what we do. it's nice to have a dual bander with 70CM, but the 2M will cover 90% and for $109, it's hard to go wrong. Save the money and don't skimp on the antenna.

Will do, how long's that take?  I forgot to ask the volunteers.

Tom, just go here once a day and check here to see if your call sign has been issued: tinyurl.com/y8pejda

I can't remember exactly how long it takes, but it shouldn't be more than a few weeks if I remember correctly.

Congrats on getting a license.  I'm still up in the air about equipment.
Mine took about a week to show up.

I looked at radios yesterday, and there's a 2m for $120, or a dual band (2m/440) for $240(?).
Would the dual band capability be worth the extra $100+?
The 'db' radio itself was much nicer, with remote capability (the face comes off) but I wonder if dual band is something a newby would find useful

Bottom line, one I can get right now, the other will take some time.

We've only ever used 2m frequencies on the trail.

Thanks Craig, that helps.
The salesman was pretty cool, but seemed kinda unsure on some ?? I had.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a radio. The store did have all the Diamond brand antennas and mounts which I thought was pretty cool, since that's what I read about on Expedition Exchange.
