Brett and others,

How many questions were on the exam? Do all the exams use the same number of questions? If I am passing the online exams at mid 80% am I ready?

What happens if you fail? Can you take again after a certain time limit?

Congratulations by the way.

Dustin

if I remember right, 35 questions.  yeah, youll probably pass but schedule the test, do a few more ractice tests and youll nail it.  While your there, take the general exam just for giggles.  doesn't cost any more and you just might pass it.  and it is kind of fun to take a test that you don;t give a crap if you fail.

I missed the general test by 1 after only studying for the tech class.

I think all tech exams are 35%. Mid 80's is pretty good. If you're using hamtest online take a few practice exams focusing on the weak points. Figure if you can pass that, you're plenty good to go.  At least where I took it, if you fail, you can pay the $15 again and test again right there.  Only costs more money if you fail and have to take the same exam again.

I'd keep doing the practice tests for a couple more hours or so, epscially the day before you go. I wouldn't waste a lot more time keeping it up at this point till the day before. That is what I did and it was a breeze.

Right on Dustin! It's really good to see how many people managed to get licensed this winter. It's going to be sooooo nice to dump those lousy FRS radios this spring and go HAM only. This is a major upgrade on how we roll as a group.

Congrats Dustin! That's great news.

I just wanted to point to those that haven't studied and tested yet that NOT ONE person who has studied for and taken this test has come back saying it was hard. It's just a matter of spending a few evenings studying instead of watching TV, facebooking, or surfing the web. Once you are licensed it is good for life (w/ 10 year renewal fees).

Get it done.

I went to look for a test site and found that the site doesn't exist. Where can I look to find a exam?

I went to this site to find a exam site and it came up as unavailable. http://www.arrl.org/exam.html, I can get on the hamtestonline.com. I want to find a place to take the exam.

They redid their website. If you follow the "Licensing and Testing" links on the left hand side it takes you to the new page

What's the connection between the technician class and television?

OK, so I just passed the test for technician class.  I was actually pretty nervous after completing it, because I knew I had to totally guess on 5 of the questions, and I went into the test assuming I would miss 3, so I thought I would miss a total of 7 by the end of it...

Anyway, I got 34 or 32 correct, whatever, can't remember now.

An old friend of mine was one of the examiners, got to chat with him for a few minutes while I was there (W7SEA).

How long does it take to get the callsign?  And how do I check the database since I assume it will appear there before I actually get it in snail mail?

Ben,

Congrats!  That's great news.

One way is to go to http://www.qrz.com/callsign and type your name into the search field.

Way to go Ben! Nice job.

I watched this website for mine to appear. I actually registered on this site and then was able to login to my own page and see when it was updated. Took about 10 days for me.
